Which Cordless Vacuum Has The Best Suction – Cordless vacuum cleaners, when they first appeared on the scene, were not as powerful as their mains powered counterparts. But new technology, such as long-lasting lithium-ion batteries, means that some models can now offer the same cleaning capabilities in a much lighter and more manageable format.
Because they take up less space, they’re ideal for smaller apartments, but now some top models offer up to an hour of run time, and in some cases they can operate with the same power and output as an upright or canister vacuum. Also good for larger homes.
Which Cordless Vacuum Has The Best Suction
Ever since I bought a cordless (sometimes called a stick) vacuum, I haven’t looked back. No wires to get in the way of cleaning, no dust bags to worry about – you can just pick up the cordless vacuum and clean as needed. They are more portable than traditional vacuum cleaners and easier to use than robotic vacuum cleaners. If you need a vacuum to remove pet hair, especially from sofas and beds, a lightweight and convenient cordless makes a lot of sense.
The Best Cordless Vacuum 2022: Top Portable Vacuums
There are a few factors to consider when shopping. The first is suction power – for obvious reasons, a vacuum cleaner that can’t pick up dust and dirt can’t do its job. (The right vacuum cleaner should be able to clean most dirt, grime, and surface stains, but you may need a carpet cleaner for more persistent stains). Another factor is weight, as some heavy cordless vacuums move around the living room like an upper body exercise.
The third is battery life: The vacuum you choose needs to last long enough to get you around the house on a single charge, or a corded model will take too much effort to clean. It’s also worth bearing in mind any extra features you might want – I’ve found that extra tools such as powder brushes and crevice tools are necessary. As you’ll see below, some models offer extra batteries, illuminated floor heads, and other extras that make cleaning easier than ever. However, you may pay a premium for these.
I compared them on weight, battery life, ease of use, and power on hardwood floors, carpet, linoleum, and tile. My apartment was not so sharp and spacious. I also did a semi-scientific flour test on a gray carpet, pouring a couple of tablespoons of flour and rolling it to test performance (one result can be seen above). All the vacuum cleaners that made this ‘best’ list performed well in this test, where they were able to remove all traces of flour in one sweep.

I considered the value for money and all the extra features they offer. Here’s what I found in my search for the best cordless vacuum cleaners, from my favorites…
To address the elephant in the room, to be exact, at just £600, the Dyson V15 Detect Complete is a significant spend. But – I say this without hesitation – it’s really worth it.
At just 2.74 kg, it’s very light without sacrificing suction power (it’s 230 AW in boost mode).
Dyson Vacuum Alternatives: 8 You Should Try
The V15’s first major improvement over previous Dyson models is the addition of a laser head that illuminates dust (even the smallest, microscopic particles) as it cleans. It works like a charm. The laser removes dust in nooks and crannies, then the motor automatically adjusts, increasing power in dusty areas and shortening battery life in clean areas. Smart.
An LCD screen on top of the handle shows how many particles have been sucked up, showing “scientific proof of deep cleaning” in real time. It also has a nifty battery indicator that tells you when to charge. It’s the first Dyson vacuum to feature an upgraded HEPA filter that traps fine particles as small as 0.1 microns – like pet dander and diesel soot.
The V15 has three power modes: “Auto” which intelligently adapts to different floor types, “Eco” which saves energy and “Boost” for intensive cleaning. It beats the competition in terms of battery life, with a maximum run time of 60 minutes. The battery is removable – you can buy replacements from Dyson if you want to double the run time.

Plus, it comes with seven accessories, including a special tool for long hair and pet hair that I didn’t know I needed but now can’t live without, and a fluffy brush bar that makes tackling thick floors comfortable. . . It comes with an LED-lit crevice tool for reaching behind appliances and between furniture. Every feature is well thought out, from the easy-to-empty 0.7 liter bagless tank to the low-profile floor head that fits under low furniture.
None of this is to deny the fact that £600 is a huge sum to spend on a vacuum cleaner. I think it’s worth it, but if it’s out of the budget, other Dyson models are worth looking at. I’ve owned a Dyson V7 (£249, Dyson) for years and appreciate its cleaning power, respectable battery life and reliable performance.
So the full name of this vacuum cleaner is: “Shark Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner with PowerFins, Flexology and TruePet”. Few words, but fear not – there is a very clever technique behind it. Shark is Mrs Hinch’s favorite celebrity cleaning brand; If you want a house as clean as hers, I’m sure this shark vacuum is the way to get it. It’s powerful, flexible, comes with a huge range of accessories and is particularly suitable for cleaning pet hair.

Back to the technology: Powerfins are specially angled ‘fins’ on a double brush roll to pick up extra dirt, and Flexology is an innovative feature where the vacuum bends in the center to sweep under the furniture. Without bending down (a lifesaver for getting under the bed). It also has Shark’s famous anti-hair technology, which does a great job of preventing hair from getting wrapped around the brush roller.
After trying it myself, I can confidently say that it is worth the hype. This was the last model I tried, so I (naively) thought there wouldn’t be much dust in my apartment, but the strong suction picked up more dust and hair in seconds than any other (Dyson bar). Shark says it’s 50 percent better at picking up dirt and debris than previous models, and I’ve seen it in action.
While most vacuum cleaners have a motorized roller on the brush head, this one has two, plus a light, so you get a very efficient performance. It comes with a wide range of accessories: a crevice tool, an anti-allergy brush, a “multi-surface” dust remover, and a special pet tool.

The fact that it has two batteries is a particular plus as you get up to 120 minutes of runtime (it also has a dual charging dock). It also has an LED display that shows battery level and lets you switch between suction level and floor type. I found it very easy to set up and use, although it is a little heavier than my top choice, the Dyson, weighing in at 4kg.
This cordless vacuum has a lot going for it – its 45-minute battery life (and the fact that it comes with an extra battery to double the time), strong suction, easy-to-empty canister, and extra features really impressed me. Simply put, it competes with more expensive models at a better price.
It worked great on hard floors and carpets, and has a convenient light floor head and durable brush mode, making it easy to wash dust and debris off my carpet. At 3.1 kg, it’s a bit heavier than some of the other models on this list, but light enough to use for cleaning surfaces and corners by hand. It only comes with a crevice tool, but if you order from Wax Direct they’ll add £50 worth of extras including an upholstery brush and an extended crevice tool. It has a very powerful ‘Turbo’ mode, but even on normal settings it offers plenty of suction power so I didn’t find it needed to be used very often.

Also impressive is how incredibly easy it is to use and empty. You can charge the 4.0Ah battery in the charging dock – no need to plug the whole unit into the wall – and the 0.6L tank has a simple release mechanism that makes it quick and clean to empty.
It’s also worth mentioning that Vax offers a cordless vacuum and floor cleaner: the Vax ONEPWR Glide Hard Floor Cleaner (£199.99, Vax). It’s a lifesaver for indecisive cleaners
