Use a kitchen scale to measure 20 ounces of soy wax flakes to make 2 candles. Or use this candle tip to find the right amount for your containers.
To safely melt wax, pour a measured amount of soy wax into a candle melting pitcher. Place the pitcher full of wax inside a large pot filled with about 2 inches of water. Using the double boiler method, heat over medium to low heat with a slow simmer on high. Stir frequently with a metal whisk or heat-resistant silicone spatula.
Remove the pitcher from the heat immediately after melting to prevent the wax from getting too hot or burning. Then clip a candle thermometer inside the jug to monitor. Or use a non-contact infrared thermometer.
Reading By The Fire
Allow the wax temperature to cool to between 125°F to 120°F before adding 2 ounces of vanilla oil. Completely incorporate the scent by stirring continuously for 2 minutes.
As the wax begins to harden, insert the metal tab of each cotton wick into the wax. Then carefully center and place the bottom of each mug. Hold the place for a few seconds. (After a few minutes the wax hardens and has a good grip on the bottom of the container.)
Next, slowly pour your vanilla scented wax into each container. Place an optional centering device on each wick to help hold it in place during the curing process.

Before cutting each wick let the candles cool and the wax harden for 30 minutes to an hour. Cut each wick into about ¼ inch. As tempting as it may be, don’t light your homemade scented candles until they’ve been good for at least 3 days.
