Honestly, I didn’t even think there was another work that could refresh the rational side of things, and when novelist Toru Toba’s Tensai Ouji came out this season, I’m more than happy to say that there is more than a Realist Hero in the end. The last one was much more sincere and earnest that kept me very engaged than the promise of Dojyomaru who has already crossed two courses. Of course, it wasn’t all without its drawbacks that hindered what could have been a better ability than… A much better True Hero a be within firepower sight lines. And this story begins just like Realist Hero, except without the Isekai, so it keeps the narrative within closed boundaries and without outside interference. Right off the bat, the full name of the series actually omits the catchphrase ~Sōu da, Baikoku Shiyōu~ (Hey, How About Treason?) in short, but it’s barely a ‘ speeding like mad. I was almost legitimately relieved that another series this season (Shikkakumon) was doing the same thing, and that wasn’t the case when it came to changes without giving context an introduction to viewers. You can blame director Makoto Tamagawa for this disaster, as he didn’t have enough experience as a director if he broke the 3-episode rule (which luckily, the series will get better afterwards). But enough of that. As I was saying, the introduction is very similar to Realist Hero, where the rightful king has to be dethroned due to certain complications, just to take the baton to someone capable. And that person is Crown Prince Wein Salema Arbalest, the potential heir to the royal line of the Natra Kingdom. He has the intelligence to lift his country out of a possible problem (say debt) and he is praised for his inherent qualities, the only problem is that, as the title, under that princely face to the true colors of a reckless rebel, a scene of betrayal to sell his own kingdom and avoid his duties. Throughout the day, he will try to think of ways to complain about anything and everything, while achieving his goal of not wanting to be burdened with the duties of the kingdom around his neck. And as much as he is criticized for doing so, no one is closer than Ninym Ralei, a close friend and personal assistant who comes from an oppressed minority known as the Flahm. She is always the one who keeps Wein in check and in check, in case he tries to play punk and do the impossible, which is for funny reasons (since this is a fantasy comedy ), always fails brainstorming, taking it a step further. betrayal Honestly, I can consider these two as a couple, although they are more than just friends ruling a kingdom, growing from a premature state to a great state of that genius brain of Wein only . Also, Ninym is waifu material, nuff said. These two aren’t alone in making Wein win royals and cry like a baby. Wein has a younger sister named Falanya Elk Arbalest, who one day wants to be like her great brother, filling the void when he failed. And in my eyes, Iouto may have the perfect character, even more so for someone who has a position within the royal family. And like Wein, she has a personal bodyguard named Nanaki Ralei, although he and Ninym are not related to each other as siblings with the same family name. Politics is the name of the game, and what character will fill that void within the conflict of nations by adding a friend to the mix: Lowellmina “Lowa” Earthwold, the second princess of the combined Earthworld Empire with her brothers Demetrio, Bardloche, and Manfred, all of them fighting for the throne in the biggest conflict that seemed like a kingdom ever. Of course, being a princess also has its dangers, just like a prince, and being friends with Wein and Ninym at the Royal Academy, she knows the tricks and crafts of both characters more than being a woman like Wein to the point of playing mind games. and trying to deceive each other. And I have to say, for a fantasy comedy, Lowa and Wein’s psychological “brains vs brawn” is one of the best things in the series, and I can’t underestimate that enough for this to be a a sign of the relationship that is intentional. turned upside down for comedy purposes. It’s like they didn’t want things to happen, but it still happened, and they come to a consensus in the end to pull the psychological struggles. This is the character development I’m willing to invest in, and it paid off handsomely. Clearly, Yokohama Animation Lab was (and still is) a relatively new studio that I didn’t expect to see here, considering the studio’s last series ( Magatsu Wahrheit: Zuerst) didn’t really sport any kind of decent visuals, and it’s still at the bottom of the animation pack. That said, Tensai Ouji is the studio’s third full-length effort after Magatsu and Lapis Re:LIGHTs, and I can see some improvements, although at times there is a lot of noise going back to the same styles which has been done before. In particular, the 3DCG which still looks choppy to watch, which is neither good nor bad, just not a clean transition. But on the other hand it’s just mediocre at best animation and good visuals because this also shows action that is more static than moving ones, if you don’t want CGI it will look terrible. Also, there is something that caught my eye when the show started. Apparently, if you’re a keen-eyed hawk like me, you may have noticed that for some reason they couldn’t get the OP’s shot in time, using splicing and combining cuts regular episodic animation as a kind of “Just In Time” before we get the official look of the OP set in 4 episodes. Heck, this is honestly scary not meeting deadlines and it looks like it killed viewers who might be interested in the show. In addition, the OST selection here is very good, and this surprise is the unusual collaboration that I did not expect to- ever seen: Nagi Yanagi and The Sixth Lie, coming together to write a song that was not in my head, nothing less than a nice OP music, this is probably one of the best this season. For Yoshino Nanjo , his departure from fripSide is very obvious, and the sequel continues with his solo ED, which, like the OP, is also a pleasant, upbeat song. All things considered, this would be one of the best OSTs of the season for me. When it all comes down to this, I have to say that I really liked Tensai Ouji as a Realist Hero, and the difference is in these tips (thanks to tips from a special person I feel which I really like): – Realist Hero spends a lot of time, for example, hidden fan service, while Tensai Ouji relies on less narrative devices but does not try to hide them. – In both shows, the MC is immediately nominated to lead their countries. The events of a Realist Hero happen randomly and hinder the narrative that tries to justify it, while Tensai Ouji facilitates acceptance and advancement. – In Realist Hero, magic plays a role in solving many problems conveniently, while Tensai Ouji just relies on intelligence
