Today, I’m sharing some straightforward tips to help demystify the process of putting together beautiful holiday vignettes to create a new level of holiday decor in your home for Christmas.

So we’ve determined that creating beautiful vignettes is one of the best ways to give your home a welcoming and refined feel, not just during the holidays, but any time of year.
Well, it’s a way of stacking things and objects on a flat surface. Use your decorations to create a beautiful scene, almost like 3D art or still life. If you don’t have a fireplace, you can create a beautiful holiday vignette(s) on your dining table, shelves, bookshelf, countertops, your dresser or nightstand, or even your windowsill or floor!
So, now you have 18 Christmas decoration bins open in front of you. Which ones should you use? And which ones should match? How can you choose between them? And where should they go?

Eek! Take a deep breath. You have it. In fact, once you get the hang of it, it’s really fun! Here are my seven tips to help you create beautiful Christmas vignettes throughout your home…
Fireplaces and dining room mantles are natural focal points for placing a vignette, but there are other natural focal points around your home that are just as functional and a little more unexpected.
For example, the corner of your kitchen sink is the perfect place for a cute little holiday vignette like the one I put together for my soap dispenser last year.
How To Create Beautiful Holiday Vignettes Throughout Your Home
You certainly don’t need a fireplace or hutch to create a welcoming and beautiful holiday vignette – you can use the floor! In our hallway, I attached some wooden vintage skis, stacked them with old skates, and threw a colorful plaid scarf around them.
Think three, five or seven. This is a good rule of thumb for any vignette you create. I tend to sit side by side with a few things, but I like to group things in groups of three or five on each side. Adjusting height and stacking objects in groups are two more areas I’ll cover below.
In our Christmas bedroom last year, I stuck to a blue, green and white theme with silver tones. This kept the flow of color throughout the room calm and all the pieces related to our art and decor throughout the year.

The setting is simple for a holiday where all the greenery and fabrics are a part of it. The rustic texture of the antique snow skis and old theater chair contrasts with the soft cozy texture of the plaid blanket and the icy texture of the greenery tucked into the winter boots.
The fluffy pillow construction is a great way to layer and add lots of flocked branches.
For our Christmas mantel, I layered natural green textures with fabrics and ribbon, and added a bit of fuzzy border texture to the stockings.
Tips For Creating The Perfect Holiday Giveaway
I like to group display ends with tall pieces like our Christmas mantel and our dining room vignette last year. Large pieces at either end seem to frame the entire vignette and draw the eye from the edges to its center.
Last year on the Christmas shelves, I grouped my Christmas pieces in one shelf with a capital letter to create a theme that flowed beautifully on the shelf. A bottle brush tree set in front of galvanized metal candlesticks on the bottom shelf reflects the design of the wooden cutouts.
The tiered platter in our kitchen is another beautiful but non-traditional focal point that I like to group and display similar themes each holiday. Pulling together a fun kitchen vignette around a holiday food or drink is a great way to create a cute and practical display!
Use These 5 Items To Create An Easy Holiday Display!
Layering is key! Start with the larger pieces at the back and ends, then stack the folding pieces (odd numbers), some in the back and some in the front, overlapping slightly. Adding dust to this vignette ties it all together and softens the layers.
You can see that I have stacked some of the larger items behind me on my shelves, and in the case of the nativity scene, the pieces are stacked on top of each other (instead of all randomly spread across the surface of the shelf). Layering and overlapping help create visual connection so that the viewer’s eye takes in a group of items as a whole, rather than appearing jumbled.

As with all content, the best gift guides address a specific problem for a specific audience. So, instead of creating a generic gift guide that covers all kinds of products, keep it a little more targeted! For example, if you’re a company that makes products for moms, you could create a gift guide for partners or friends of busy moms.
You can even change sub-topics in your guides! For example, you could create a gift guide on “What to buy every type of friend in your life” and categorize your suggestions into “the techy friend who always fixes your laptop” and “the friend who already has everything.” a friend who likes to cook, and so on.
