Spending Christmas Alone This Year Tips To Make It Easier – This week I again invited Rodara Nelloms to give tips on how to enjoy the holidays when you can’t spend time with your loved ones. Rudara is a co-author of “Private Eyes by D.R. Nelums”, and creator of Self-Certified, a page that inspires young women to let their “inner beauty shine through”.
For years, many of us have equated the holidays with family gatherings, parties and lots of holiday dinners. But what if circumstances change where you are no longer spending holidays with family and friends? For some people, the holidays may not trigger thoughts of happiness; Instead, they only reinforce the idea that we don’t spend time with people whose company we may have enjoyed in the past. Whatever your reason for spending Christmas alone this year, it doesn’t have to be a time of loneliness and depression. It can actually be a great time filled with opportunities to pamper yourself and do something for others. By trying some of these ideas this holiday season, you just might discover your new favorite Christmas tradition.
Spending Christmas Alone This Year Tips To Make It Easier
How often do you really take the time to enjoy yourself? Having alone time is the best time to do the things you enjoy, without having to rely on other people’s opinions. It’s your time. You don’t have to compromise with others. How you spend your time is completely up to you.
Ways To Spend New Year’s Eve When You’re Alone
Give yourself a spa day at home. This is one of my favorite things to do alone. In fact, I’m planning my next spa day at home as I write this.
Bathe in luxury. Draw a warm bath, add bath salts and your favorite essential oil. Light some candles in your bathroom and put on some relaxing music. Or put your laptop or tablet on the stand and play your favorite movie/TV show. When you’re done, be sure to lather your body with a little coconut oil and get yourself a nice, soft bathrobe to wrap in.
Give yourself a massage. After taking a shower, massage your feet. The nerve endings connected to each of your organs are found on the soles of your feet. With a little coconut oil mixed with your favorite essential oil, massage each of your feet, giving every inch the attention it deserves. If you don’t want to bend over, use a massage roller. Next, use a massager for your back and relieve any tension that may be in your neck, upper back and lower back.
Christmas In Michigan: 20 Wonderful Places For Holiday Cheer
Read a book. If it’s been a great day, step out with a warm drink and immerse yourself in the pages of a new book. If you prefer to stay inside, grab a blanket and sit on the couch. Reading is a great way to let your imagination run wild while exercising your brain.
Do you have a movie marathon. If you’re anything like me, you probably have a favorite show that you haven’t gotten around to following in the last few weeks. Or maybe there are some movies you haven’t seen that interest you. Maybe you have some old favorites that you haven’t seen in a while. If you have a streaming service, add a list of movies/shows to your queue so they’re ready to binge watch. If not, rent from Amazon. Grab your favorite snack and enjoy your marathon.
Eat from your favorite restaurant. While most restaurants are closed on Christmas Day, if you want to enjoy your favorite dish, be proactive. Order your food to go on Christmas Eve. Then just heat it up (if needed) on Christmas Day. If you want to get out of the house, get out. Find out which restaurants will be open on Christmas Day and treat yourself to lunch or dinner.
Cute Christmas Date Ideas You’ll Want To Try This Holiday Season
Throw a dance party. Turn on your favorite music and dance loudly. It’s a great mood booster and you’ll be working out too. No one’s watching, so be as silly as you want.
Attended a Christmas Eve service. If you want a sense of community around the holidays, head to your local church on Christmas Eve. There is usually lots of singing and lots of positive vibes that will get you into the Christmas spirit.
Go outside and play! If there is snow on the ground, build a snowman, make a snow angel, and throw snowballs with your neighbors. Or take a walk. Play some Christmas songs on your cell phone and take a walk around your neighborhood enjoying all the holiday decorations. This is a great opportunity to get your heart pumping while having fun. Be sure to take time to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature and maybe the giggles of the children playing with their new toys.
Ways To Spend Christmas Alone
Buy yourself some gifts. No one knows what you want better than you. Go Christmas shopping for yourself. Most people don’t shop alone during the holidays. Save yourself a fortune and get something you’ve been waiting for a long time. Roll it up (if you want) and place it under your tree if you have it ready. Recently, a neighbor gave me this idea at a holiday party. She said that even though she knew about gifts, she still enjoyed the act of wrapping gifts and seeing them under the tree and opening them. If you’re in the same vein, treat yourself to a few things to unwrap on Christmas morning while listening to your favorite Christmas carols.
Create art. If you’re artistic, or even if you’re not, grab a canvas, paint, brush, and just do it. Allow yourself to create something that wouldn’t exist. Draw something for yourself or with the intention of giving it to someone you love. Whatever the outcome, enjoy the process.
Create your own vision board for 2018. Do you know what to plan for the new year? You can use this time to think about 2017 and create the year you want for 2018. Get some magazines, markers, poster board and glue. Then create the goals you have for this year with your own pictures and words. Get creative with it, make it as detailed as possible. “Write down the vision and explain it.” Habakkuk 2:2
Christmas Mental Health Support
Sometimes, when we don’t fully feel like ourselves, it helps to find ways to help others. Knowing how your actions can positively impact others may just be the Christmas magic you need to fully feel the spirit of the holiday season.
Random acts of kindness. Don’t you feel happy when someone does something nice for you, without wanting anything in return? You can convey the same feelings to other people. Pick up some trash, open the door, or send a “thank you” card. There are many simple actions you can take for others that can make you and your recipient feel good. For some random tasks to brighten someone else’s day, watch this slideshow. Feel free to use any of them, modify them or create your own. The important thing is that you do something good for others, no matter how small the deed is.
Volunteer at homeless shelters/shelters. There are people in your community who need help, especially during the holidays. Find a shelter near you and find out how you can donate your time. They may need help delivering food, gathering personal items, or serving Christmas dinner. Get in touch and find out how you can help.

Giving games to children in the hospital. The last place any child wants to be on Christmas morning is a hospital. Collect some toys and coloring books from your local dollar store and make arrangements with your local children’s hospital/ward to have them delivered. You’ll play as Santa Claus, or one of his elves, for the day and bring a much-needed smile to the kids’ faces.
Distributing cards to hospital patients. For adults spending Christmas in the hospital, contact your local hospital for distribution protocols. Once arrangements are made, write words of kindness on holiday cards and give them to hospital patients.
Surprise foreigners. Wrap some presents, go for a walk/ride, and give them to people walking alone, wishing them “Happy Birthday” when handing gifts. People don’t often expect kindness from strangers, so this will be a pleasant surprise for the recipient.
How To Cope When You’re Alone On New Year’s Eve
Say thank you to your local emergency responders. Our emergency responders are still working on Christmas Day. Let them know you care by taking a gift, a handwritten note, or even a few gifts to the local police or fire department. Remember, they don’t spend their holidays with their families either. This will show them that there is someone in the community they serve who appreciates their hard work and sacrifice.
