Every year, thousands of pets go missing during the Fourth of July holiday because they get caught in fireworks or unknown guests visiting the home. To ensure pets are safe and out of shelters, El Paso Animal Services urges pet owners to bring their pets indoors for the holidays.
How To Keep Pets Safe On July 4
Losing pets is no way to celebrate the holidays, so keep them safe with the simple tips below:
Kaxan’s Fireworks Safety For Pets
· Traditionally drag the pets outside to “do their business” before dusk and before the fireworks.
· Microchip your pet and ensure your pet’s microchip is up to date with correct contact information. You can get it for free at www.foundanimals.org.
· If you have a new pet and you are not sure how it will react to loud noises, stay with your pet.

Please note that all Animal Services facilities are closed to keep the community and staff safe and healthy. However, the department is still maintaining essential services. If your pet goes missing, visit www./lostpetresources for information on finding and retrieving your pet and other tips to help with your search. You can call (915) 212-8741 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, July 4, or seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If you find a lost pet, El Paso Animal Services recommends taking the animal and helping locate its owner. Opportunities are lost to keep pets from wandering too far from home, and if they stay in their communities, they are more likely to be reunited with their families. Animal Services provides supplies and support to anyone looking for a lost pet to help reunite pets with their owners. The community is encouraged to call 311 if a finder cannot temporarily care for a lost pet, or if the animal is sick, injured, endangered, aggressive, vicious or at risk of cruelty or neglect.
