The Ultimate Guide To Throwing A Dog Birthday Party

Besides the heat, the theme had to be related to pineapples. Why? Well, the Cavology pineapple bandana was the first accessory we EVER bought for Henry, before he was even born. And it was her first Halloween costume. In addition, I live by the pineapple mantra: “Be a pineapple: stand tall, wear a crown and stay sweet inside”. I don’t know who to thank for this quote, but thank you, we could all benefit from a little kindness.

Theme for our dog’s birthday party, the wheels started turning. Juan and I love hosting, and we make a great team.

When guests arrived, we served two different starters: Hawaiian Salad (mixed greens, zucchini noodles, sliced pineapple with berry vinaigrette) and Guacamole & Fried Plantain Chips.

This was followed by our local tropical Tiki Tacos (pickled red cabbage, avocado, spicy mayo and thin skirt steak on a thin tortilla) & Hawaiian Hot Dogs. To make it sweet, we have two top options: Mango salsa

Pinterest can really give you all the inspiration to bake a birthday cake and treat for your dog. The truth is, if I’m making something for Henry from scratch, I want to make sure it’s safe and has healthy ingredients for all dogs. I would hate for a dog to have a stomach problem because of me. This time, I played it safe with what I did for the puppies, but maybe next time I’ll be more aggressive! Juan’s mom made all the dogs frozen watermelon, and I made yogurt and frozen berry treats for myself!

On a hot day, and there are no complex ingredients, plain non-fat, without sugar, natural Greek yogurt and blueberries. I had fun making them with silicone dog bone molds and pineapples from Amazon!

Instead of a birthday cake, the puppies enjoyed delicious cakes made by Doggieville! What a joy! In addition to our homemade treats and cakes, we were spoiled by our friend Brigitte, founder of BILLIEBONE. She made all our friends little swag bags full of her goodies, homemade and organic! It was the perfect way to end a dog party!

With the theme and menu set, there was one final touch to pull this dog birthday party together: decorations! By browsing Amazon here, and a trip to the dollar store there, we were able to add accessories and pops of color to the yard to tie our theme together! I’m a go-ahead type of person, but a last-minute shopper. I love how quickly anything I needed for Henry’s birthday was available on Amazon. They have many beautiful dog breeds. I didn’t know this existed until I became a dog mom. Check it out!

This year my son turned 12 and asked for a dog themed birthday party…so cute! As always everything seemed to come together for a fun party that was enjoyed by all our guests. The cake (yes, that’s really a cake) is made with two brownie mixes, baked in a stainless steel pan and turned into a dog bowl I bought at the Dollar Tree. After it cooled, I covered it with chocolate frosting and frosted the top of the cake with Girl Scout Thin Mint cereal that I found at the grocery store. I’m not sure if this is a limited edition or seasonal cereal, but it looks like dog food (don’t tell General Mills I said that!) At first, I was planning on getting the Coco Puffs, but when I saw the Thin. Mint Cereal, I knew it was a good choice!

This black lab from Build-a-Bear has been hidden in the attic for several years, but I’m glad he made it to our Dog Party! I made the dog house out of an old shipping box, red tag board and a black foam base board that I bought at the Dollar Tree. The total cost of the dog house was only $3.07. I love these Scooby dog shaped crackers. I got them on Amazon in snack size packages and a box of Scooby cinnamon graham crackers at our local WINCO.

Who among us hasn’t eaten refried beans and thought, this looks like wet dog food? I added taco seasoning to give it more flavor and it works well as a bean dip paired with a bowl of tortilla chips.
