Meader said it’s been nearly two years since the auction began and it will take about a year and a half to pack because of the size of the collection. To get an idea of the size, Meader noted that he logged 10 hours of work on the first day of the collection. For example, going through the photos in the collection, Meader had to search to see who was in the photos as well as the date and condition of each one. The final product is a collection of items arranged from the origins of the Auchincloss family through the generations.
The auction will take place on site and online. John McInnis Auctioneers is predicting that between the two formats there will be hundreds, if not thousands of people involved, Meader said. The items can be viewed online, and Meader notes that a live camera will be set up so online viewers can watch the auction in real time. Meader said the items once belonged to Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis’ brother, Hugh “Yusha” Auchincloss. When Auchinclos died, the collection was left to his assistant, Colleen Townsend Pilat, who is a friend of Woods.
