Folded Pages Book Art Patterns – Learn how to fold a book into words or pictures with this simple tutorial. The first time I saw the book cover, I remember thinking how intricate it looked and wishing I could learn how to make it myself. Turns out it’s a really easy craft! It takes a few hours to join all the pages, but it’s not as complicated as it seems!
This tutorial is for joining the word “Mom” to the book, but you can use the same technique to join any word or image you want.
Folded Pages Book Art Patterns
Download the pattern here and print it out full size – this will be on three separate sheets of paper. This pattern is for the word “mother” and requires at least 402 pages in the book (201 folds).

Place the template in the book behind the first page you want to fold. Make sure that the bottom of the sheet of paper lines up with the bottom of the book (the words must be in the middle of the book, if not, cut the bottom of the paper until it becomes – and remember to cut another piece. from the same paper). Place the pattern so that the first vertical line matches the edge of the page. Then fold the bottom corner at an angle of 45 degrees until it is parallel to the black text in the line, as in the image above (Please note: this image is not the first fold, but the 7th).
Fold the top corner of the page down at an angle of 45 degrees until it is parallel to the edge of the black font on the line (seen in the photo above). Then use a ruler to flatten the folds to make sure they stay folded.

If you reach a part of the pattern that has two or more black text areas (this happens with letters like “O” “P”, “Q” “B” etc), then click on the top of the black text. . on one page, and on the next page you go to the next part of the letter. Keep alternating sides.
Turn the page you just folded over to the other side of the book, then place the folding pattern on the back of the next page. Move down so that it is now on the second vertical line and repeat step 2. Continue this technique until the letter M is complete.
Make sure you make a mark on the pattern every time you make a fold so you know which line you’re following – it’s so easy to get lost! I just use a pen and mark a line every time I finish a page.

Now that you have entered the first letter, you have reached the room. To create a space (the part of the template where there is no black text) fold the page as in the picture above. To make this fold, you just fold the top corner as much as possible, and do the same with the bottom corner of the page. This means that no part of the page shows when the book is closed.
Continue the pattern by following the steps above until your words are complete. Then the book cover is slightly upright and should look like the photo above. A hard back book will stand on its own more easily than a soft back book.

The instructions are very easy to follow and I really like that they say when a new letter is about to start, which is a good stopping point as well as motivation to keep going until the end of the letter. I’ve finished both books and it’s only the 2nd and 3rd page folds, so very easy for beginners! I love how my book looks, thank you!
