When the restaurant chain hired Cheskin, it was in the process of redesigning its business model, focusing on simplicity, consistency and the ability to replicate the same atmosphere at each location. The new restaurants had brick walls and mansard ceilings, unlike the ceilings customers were used to at the time.
Cheskin calls the Golden Arches “Mother McDonald’s breasts” to help ease the transition. He says they have an important Freudian significance in the client’s subconscious mind.
It’s been 57 years since Cheskin’s was a design choice, and McDonald’s is still bringing in customers.
I can’t say because the logo looks like a brisket or because the Big Mac sauce and fries are delicious, at least now you know the true story behind the McDonald’s logo.
