How To Clean Windows Like A Pro

Knowing how to clean windows may seem like a simple task at first. However, virtually any kind of smudge can end up on glass, whether it’s watermarks, fingerprints, or just general dirt, and it can be difficult to remove. Even if you manage to remove these marks, the grease can leave stains on the window that just won’t come off. In the end, all the work can seem counterproductive and even worse than when you started when trying to clean a glass cooktop.

But don’t worry, with the right products and approach, your windows can be back to looking like new. The good news is that windows are one of the easiest things to clean and you can get clear results in minutes. Here, we’ll walk you through exactly what you need to do and answer any questions you may have along the way.

1. If you’re cleaning windows from the inside, the first thing you’ll want to do is remove any dust and cobwebs. Use a dry microfiber cloth and wipe down the panels around the frame and sill. Don’t forget to open the window to also take a look at the hidden cracks. In extreme cases, you can also use one of the best vacuum cleaners with a soft brush attachment.

2. Close the window when you’re done. Depending on the level of soiling, there are a few methods you can choose from:

3. If you want to speed up drying and save some microfiber cloths, you can also use a squeegee to remove excess water. Make sure you have a towel on the floor or windowsill to catch debris and keep one handy to dry the squeegee between passes.

4. Dry in a buffing motion with microfiber cloths. Be sure to work in different directions to avoid streaks, and trim the fabric to dry areas to avoid reapplying water. You can also use a paper towel to do this.

5. If streaks are still visible, rinse and repeat from step 3; It’s probably soap scum. Your windows should now look pristine on the inside, now it’s time to tackle the outside.

6. This is a large surface area so you will need a bucket and some large lint free cloths. It’s also best to do this on a cloudy day, otherwise the sun can dry out the results before you have time to remove the lines.

7. The size of the crystals means that using a spray bottle isn’t practical, so standard glass cleaners are out the window (pun intended). You’ll want to fill the bucket with warm soapy water or add a bit of white distilled vinegar into the water.

9. When cleaning with a squeegee, try to work in an S-shaped pattern from top to bottom, remembering to come back to where you started and finish against the edge. That way, you won’t be left with any annoying watermarks.

10. Dry if necessary. Your windows should now look pristine. Remember to clean them regularly to make this task less of a hassle.
