Dumbledores Speech Goblet Of Fire – Whoever said “It’s a journey, not a destination” overlooked the first-year trip to Hogwarts. Of course Harry liked the part about the Hogwarts Express; friendships were made, escaped frogs were recovered, and lots and lots of candy was eaten. But it also includes a boat ride to school across the Great Lake, accompanied by Hagrid – a special treat for the first years only.
While the Sorting Hat composed a new song each year, Harry’s Sorting Song was a huge crowd pleaser, earning a well-deserved round of applause from the Great Hall. Hat-satisfaction.

“Oh, you might not think I’m pretty, but don’t judge by what you see, I’d eat myself if you found a hat smarter than me.” Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Grading music of the future would have a darker tone, warning of dangerous times ahead, lamenting even the need to grade students. But at the time, these hilarious antics were the perfect introduction to the four houses and managed to “kill” the hat-related humor. It was a simpler time.
Harry’s first sorting ceremony revealed more about some of the students than just their houses. Do you remember how the arrogant Draco “snapped” forward? We knew from then on that he belonged in Slytherin. Or when Neville ran up to the table with the hat? As nervous and awkward as he was, Neville was sorted into Gryffindor for a reason and we couldn’t wait for him to show his true colors.
Banquet banter also gave us a bit of insight into the characters’ families. Seamus Finnigan told us about his ‘half and half’ origins, while Neville talked about his great-uncle Algie’s attempts to ‘squeeze’ the magic out of him – pushing a kid off Blackpool Pier isn’t cool. The whole time Hermione was just looking forward to her lessons. Because that’s the Hermione for you.

A wise old man once said that our choices show who we really are, not just our abilities. Dumbledore was obviously talking about sorting Harry.
Being a Muggle-raised Harry, he arrived not knowing much about home. All he really heard was that Hufflepuffs had a reputation for being ‘too many o’s’ (Newt Scamander would disagree) and that Slytherin had quite a few Dark wizards, including Lord Voldemort. When it was Harry’s turn to be sorted, he would be happy to belong in any house… except one.
“Not Slytherin huh?” said the little voice. ‘He is sure? You can be great, you know, it’s all in your head, and Slytherin will help you on your way to greatness, there’s no doubt about that, right? Well, if you’re sure, you better be a Gryffindor!” Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Have you ever been put off by boring speeches at formal events, especially if you’re waiting to be fed? Don’t worry, Professor Dumbledore wouldn’t do that. Though he made some major points later that night, mostly about not getting killed at school, his pre-celebration intro was short, awkward, and brilliant.
“Welcome to the new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our feast, I’d like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Smearing! Weird! Pinch! ‘Thank you!’ Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone food, wonderful food
), the first party at Pedra Filosofal was presented with mouth-watering details. We had to share the joy with Harry, who spent his life hungry for more than just attention, having so much wonderful food in front of him.

He had never seen so many things he liked to eat on one table: roast beef, roast chicken, pork and lamb chops, sausages, bacon and steak, boiled potatoes, hash browns, hash browns, Yorkshire pudding, peas, carrots, gravy, ketchup and, for some strange reason, mint sham. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
What better way to end a great night than with some musical mayhem? While the rest of the teachers smiled impassively, Professor Dumbledore led the school in a rousing hymn, each singing a song of his choice. We can only imagine their noise.
“Oh, the music,” he said, wiping his eyes. “Magic beyond anything we do here!” Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
Dumbledore Quotes: Words Of Wisdom From The Harry Potter Series
So why don’t we get a Hogwarts version of Hogwarts every holiday? Apparently, the director only sang this song when he was feeling “extremely excited”, so he must have been in top form that night. Another reason why this graduation ceremony was the best.
