That’s why “Speed Racer”, a movie’s acid ride, was kind of a fiasco. It still has its fans, because a crazy cotton candy movie based on an old Japanese cartoon is what some really want.
The main characters in Steven Soderbergh’s movie are not race car drivers. Robbers are oppressed people. A heist movie from start to finish. So why is he making this list? Because the robbery happens during the Coca-Cola 600, one of the biggest NASCAR races of the year. We see a lot of car racing, and six different NASCAR drivers had small cameo roles, not as drivers.

That movie became “Grand Theft Auto” and was Howard’s first movie to be directed.
After Breaking Bad, Aaron Paul was a rising star. One of his first opportunities to try movie stardom was “Need for Speed”. Unfortunately, like most movies based on video games, it was considered a sort of fiasco, even if it made a decent amount of money. Paul is good at that and Michael Keaton has a role too, but the movie shrugged a bit.
Most of these movies have a lot of horsepower. Here’s a movie that has horsepower… one. We add a equestrian movie to the mix and it’s “Seabiscuit”. A feel-good biography about a beloved, downtrodden horse you’ve probably heard of. If you’re in the mood for a retro biography with some fun, you could do much worse than “Seabiscuit.”

“Race Race” is basically a copy of “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”. Why is it making our list? One of them has “race” in the title. Second, in It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, there is no real race, even if people try to be the first to find a treasure. A real race takes place in “Rat Race”. The joke comedy doesn’t always work, but it’s a good enough comedy.
“Death Race 2000” did not predict what the world would be like at the turn of the millennium, and we should all be thankful. This is another Roger Corman production, which means he’s not interested in lean, rough and subtle. There’s a lot of violence and a ton of fighting. It also has some satire and comedy in it. Plus it includes acting from David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone before Rocky Balboa.
Did you know there’s a racing movie starring Jackie Chan? There is and that’s it. This Hong Kong action movie features Chan as a race car driver and of course does his own stunts as usual. Well, not all. No, not because he’s worried. Chan had injured himself with “Rumble in the Bronx”, so he did the stunts he could only do physically, including many involving his injured leg. He brought the urgent need for racial justice to the forefront of the conversation in America. Widespread protests and civil unrest against racism and police brutality have made it impossible for the nation (and the world) to ignore the consequences of a long history of racism and racial violence. As many people face the harsh realities that black Americans face every day in this country, the need for education about the history of the long and ongoing struggle for racial justice is critical.
