The meals, which come with toys designed by streetwear company Cactus Plant Flea Market, have proven to be a hit, which is unfortunate for McDonald’s frontline employees. Looks like we might have a Rick and Morty Szechuan Sauce disaster on our hands.
Employees are stressed by the number of people coming in to get the limited supply of Happy Meals for adults. Workers are “begging customers to stop ordering Adult Happy Meals,” Fortune wrote. “I see the stress among my coworkers,” a McD’s employee told Kotaku.

When you order your meal, you can choose between a Big Mac or a 10-pack, which includes fries and a drink, plus the limited-edition box and cactus plant flea market toy. Nostalgia makes this a legitimate craze.
Mcdonald’s Adult Happy Meal Is Something To Hate On
In a subreddit for McDonald’s employees, people expressed their frustrations about dealing with customers who come to the table. Read a comment:
The first day i had them was the most stressful i’ve ever been at work. we also had a big storm and we lost 3 more people than the 5-6 who had shouted. it was exhausting. went out same night but got more today. I can’t wait for my next tour.
If there was any saving grace for McDonald’s employees, it’s that they ran out of adult meals. The subreddit was full of comments from people saying they were excited that their store was done with boxes and toys. Comments like “everyone in my store was happy when the toys sold out” are quite common. And, at least if the subreddit is to be trusted, many shops are gone.
Funny enough, I’ve been trying to do a test since I wrote an article about the Adult Happy Meal on Tuesday. My local McDonald’s is all the time. Here’s what the app looks like on my phone when I go to order food from the cactus plant flea market.

There are few greater childhood feelings than begging your parents to take you to McDonald’s and finally getting them to give in. Nothing makes you happier than a Happy Meal, the colorful cardboard box filled with a hamburger or McNuggets, fries and of course… a toy.
While a trip to McDonald’s as an adult can be just as delicious, the joy is often replaced by a sense of shame and despair. You don’t fit in the PlayPlace, you feel the hamburger fat clogging your arteries. And no toys.
So far. Mickey D’s is trying to recapture the unbridled joy of the adult Happy Meal – with Adult Happy Meals.

The Cactus Plant Flea Market Table Box is available until October 30 – a collaboration with the popular streetwear company of the same name. The meal includes a Big Mac or 10 Chicken McNuggets, fries and a drink in a Cactus Plant Flea Market themed cardboard box that is larger than the typical Happy Meal container. And of course, it comes with a toy. A flea market themed toy with cactus plants – figures of Grimace, Hamburglar and Birdie, classic McDonald’s characters, as well as “Cactus Buddy”, the mascot of the fashion company. In an oddly creepy twist, all four toys have two pairs of eyes.

The combo will set you back $12.29 for the medium fries and drink and $12.89 for the large (a large Big Mac combo meal is usually $9.79).
There’s nothing special about the food in Happy Meals for adults, and there shouldn’t be. We can debate Shake Shack vs. Five Guys all we want, but the Big Mac is still reliable. It’s not the best fast food burger, but it’s the most iconic, and for good reason – it gets it right every time. If you want McNuggets instead, knock yourself out, but you’re making a mistake. They are good. McDonald’s fries, on the other hand? Ten out of 10, no marks. Perhaps the best item to come out of a drive-thru window.
High Demand For Mcdonald’s Adult Happy Meals Overwhelms Workers
There’s nothing special about the toy either, but in a bad way. If you’re going for true nostalgia, maybe don’t make the toy a lifeless partnership with a creepy, creepy fashion company. There were so many directions McDonald’s could have gone with toys that would have been special. Cartoon toys. Nickelodeon Toys. Nia Turtle Toys. That would have turned millennial nostalgia up to 11. But instead, they decided to try something with…fashion, complete with limited-edition hoodies that cost $150. Nobody thinks about fashion and McDonald’s . They are thinking of French fries.
It’s silly to be surprised that McDonald’s, one of the most ostensibly capitalistic corporations in American society, would try to market nostalgia. It’s even less surprising that it works. People will buy this even if the whole thing is a blatant cash purchase.
But if you can look past that and get a heartfelt joy out of getting a Happy Meal as an adult, good for you. Eoy your happy meal. And keep some chips for me.

The boxed meals – called the Cactus Plant Flea Market Meal Box – are the result of a collaboration between the fast food chain and Cactus Plant Flea Market (CPFM), a street fashion brand known for paint treatments, embroidery and lettering. Some tracks also feature the character Cactus Buddy.
“One day you ordered a Happy Meal for the last time and you didn’t even know it,” McDonald’s posted on its Facebook page. So the colorful design of the limited edition cactus plant flea market box was inspired by memories of enjoying a happy meal as a child (or as we’ve put it, even after growing up).
Adult Happy Meals come with a choice of 10 Big Macs or Chicken McNuggets, fries and a drink, and what’s a Happy Meal without a toy? Of course, McDonald’s knows this better than anyone, so each Cactus Plant Flea Market Meal Box includes one of four collectible figures: CPFM-designed versions of Grimace, Hamburglar, Birdie, and (you guessed it) Cactus Buddy.
Mcdonald’s Now Offering Adult Happy Meals
“We’re taking one of the most nostalgic McDonald’s experiences and repackaging it in a new way that’s hyper-relevant to our adult fans,” said Tariq Hassan, director of US marketing and customer experience for McDonald’s.
Cactus Plant Flea Market fans who purchase boxes using the McDonald’s app will be entered that day to win limited edition CPFM x McD’s merchandise. Each week a new set of prizes will be presented and you can enter as many days as you like.
McDonald’s Happy Meals for adults will be available for a limited time from October 3-20, 2022 at drive-thru, in-restaurant, delivery or on the McDonald’s app (while supplies last). Prices will be set by individual restaurants and may vary. CBS 8 scoured drive-thrus in East County to see if there were any flea market boxes of cactus plants to serve.
Last week, the Golden Arches launched the Cactus Plant Flea Market Happy Meal box for adults, and it’s been so popular that the meals are hard to come by.
