Diy Criss Cross Ribbon On Your Christmas Tree For This Elegant Look – I often get asked about the ribbon techniques I use to decorate my Christmas trees. Every year I try something new. A few years ago, I decorated our Fraser fir with a criss-cross pattern. I used 2 ribbons, a burgundy velvet ribbon on top of a wide, gold ribbon. I added red magnolia flowers to each intersection. For the top of the tree, I made a big bow using the same two ribbons.

Last year, we bought a herd tree. In fact, this is the second herd tree we bought after the first one was stolen! Do you believe someone will steal a Christmas tree? Who would do that but the Grinch!! You know who you are!!!

Anyway, last year I decorated our Christmas tree with burgundy and white ornaments and used the criss cross ribbon technique. Looks totally different on a herd tree doesn’t it? The criss cross pattern is one of my favorite patterns.

How To Decorate A Christmas Tree Step By Step!

This year, I will be using different methods, actually several different varieties on the same tree. I chose 3 ribbons and 2 rolls of tulle. You will get the best results by using a pointed ribbon with string.

In this method, I will call a triple loop, cutting a piece of ribbon 3′ long. Make 3 loops and leave a tail, secure the loop with a plastic or wire tie.

There are different thoughts and ideas that you should do first when decorating the tree, do you put the ribbon first or last? I have done both and find it easier and less time consuming to apply the ribbon first. When I finally add the ribbon, I spend a lot of time moving the jewelry to get the perfect look.

Aren’t these decorations beautiful? They are amazing and very substantial and heavy. Each gem is made of thick mercury glass and comes in a variety of finishes.

Additionally, I added several 3′ pieces of different ribbon. Gather a piece of ribbon in the middle and put it back on the tree by tying it to a wire tree branch. You will notice that some of the branches in the middle of the tree are stringier than the front branches, use them to pinch the ribbon and hold it in place.

A flock tree is already so beautiful, it doesn’t need a lot of ribbon just a few accents here and there.

I also added 6′ sections of ribbon, laying it over the tree and pinning it in place.

So, we think it’s time for you too to decorate for Christmas. Today we want to give you a little tutorial on how to put a ribbon on a Christmas tree. We’ve also created several different ideas that will make your tree a viral sensation on Pinterest. So, go get some ribbons, put up your tree and start decorating.

First you need to know what type of ribbon and how many to get. In general, wired ribbon is easier to use. Ideally, you want it to be about 2 – 2 1/2 inches wide. When it comes to length, the bigger you get, the better. Even if you have ribbon left over, you can use it to wrap your presents. That way, the presents under the tree will match the ribbon on it. For a 7.5 foot tree you will need about 12 yards of 2 1/2 inch wide ribbon. If it is narrow, you will need about 30 years.

The simple answer is yes. Fairy lights are the first thing you need to go on your tree. Ribbon works well if tied between branches. Then you apply the ribbon and leave the jewelry as the last step.

Start at the top and wrap the ribbon around the tree gently. Tuck the last piece to the back of the tree and work around it. In order for the ribbon to stick naturally around the tree, do not pull or stretch it too much. As you work around the tree, insert the ribbon at different times, release it, and insert it again. Also, you can turn it 3 or 4 times. This creates a more interesting look. Vary the lines, don’t follow a certain pattern, let some parts of it flow freely, while others can be more whimsical. Let it flow naturally, so you don’t have to secure it with anything. Finally, finish the back of the tree.

For this tutorial, you can use two ribbons. One red and one striped. Place one of them on top of the island and follow both to the back of the tree. Gradually start weaving the ribbon in and out of the tree. Insert the ribbon once every 12 inches. Start wrapping the tree with ribbon, working it in and out. Reach down and make sure the ribbon is not tied in a straight line around the tree. When the ribbon is ready, finish the tree. Step back and look at the results. You can make a few changes here and there, if you feel the need, until the tree looks perfect to you.

Christmas Tree Ribbon Ideas And Inspiration

For the wrap and tuck method, start by wrapping the ribbon around the tree from top to bottom. Tuck the beginning between the branches at the back of the tree and the end of the ribbon between the branches at the bottom. Then, place the ribbon between the branches once every 10-12 inches. And voila! Your ribbon tree is ready!

To recreate this technique, cut the ribbon into two to three foot sections. Start by putting one end of the ribbon into the upper branch and twisting it several times. Insert the bottom of the ribbon into the branches. Repeat with other sections. This method creates a straight curve, which adds texture to your tree, so you can try it for the Christmas tree.

Start by cutting the ribbon into long leg sections. Then fold in half so the ends touch. Stick the ribbon to the tree wherever you want and blow the loop until it sticks. By doing this, it will look like ribbon is wrapped around the tree, however, small pieces of ribbon will add the necessary texture to your tree, but you won’t have to use tons and tons of ribbon. In fact, this is the most economical way to decorate your tree.

This method of wrapping a ribbon around a tree may be simple, but it can be very effective when done correctly.

Even if you decide to just use ribbons and fairy lights, you can still make a beautiful, very small Christmas tree. My favorite way is to tie a ribbon on the Christmas tree in a crisscross or zigzag pattern.

How To Wrap Ribbon On A Christmas Tree To Perfection

Tree trimming is another happy occasion. It’s also fun to find new ways to wrap a tree. I want to share one of my favorite techniques with you, I call it the criss cross technique. This tree looks so neat, tidy and organized – the OCD in me loves this approach.

Using two different ribbons, a 4″ gold ribbon and a 2″ burgundy velvet ribbon, I wrapped a slender 10 foot tree. Loving how the tree looked, I was excited to try again this year.

This time, I used ribbon to wrap my tree… but it’s thick and very transparent.

I found this double sided ribbon on Amazon. I bought the last roll and it hasn’t been restocked since. But here is a similar holy ribbon. I found another similar roll on ETSY.

For this project, I used about 50 feet of ribbon for a 10 foot slender tree, cut into five equal pieces of 10 feet each.
