How To Make Folded Fabric Flowers – Making your own wall art is easy and a great way to decorate a room without spending a lot of money on art. We’re decorating our girls’ bathroom on a budget, so the wall art saved us a lot of money! I love sweet flowers and today I’m sharing my fabric flower tutorial with you!
I started with an old license plate I got at a garage sale. You can see how it looked before here. I had 4 of them and each was uglier than the next. I turned some of them into pictures of my daughters, but one remained.
How To Make Folded Fabric Flowers
The process of creating this DIY wall art is simple. I covered the whole thing in pale gray, painted the edges with teal craft paint, attached the chevron pattern, and painted the top with light yellow craft paint. Once it was completely dry, I attached a strip of celery and some twine with a glue gun. Then I hot glued these simple fabric flowers that I made years ago but never used. Ruffly Flower Tutorial
There are other fabric flower tutorials out there, but here is a fabric flower tutorial and how I made them.
Cut 4 large and 4 smaller circles from the desired fabric and a rectangle from the felt.
Starting with the large circles, fold one circle in half, add a dot of hot glue, and carefully fold in half again.
Ways To Make Fabric Flower Headbands
Glue the folded circle to the felt, the folded part towards the middle of the felt and the open part towards the sides. Glue the other folded circle in the same way. Make sure the folded sides are next to each other. Continue with the remaining two large circles.
Turn the felt 90 degrees and layer the smaller circles folded in the same way on top of the larger folded circles.
Place the decorations in the center with hot glue. I used glitter beads, buttons and small roses. This time I used those glass beads you can buy at the dollar store. You can also add layers of smaller circles to your fabric flower to make it fluffier and fluffier.

Origami With Fabric
The first time I tried to make a flower of a similar fabric, I sewed it. I thought the sewn version would look messier, so I played around with the design and came up with a new (easier) way to make a simple fabric flower ornament that doesn’t require sewing! (It was the yo-yo flower I tried – I guess I just need more practice, lol.)
The best part about these easy flowers, other than no sewing, is that you can make dozens of them in minutes.
All you need is fabric, some glue (I used hot glue) and some matching buttons. You create a circle template, punch a few and attach with glue. Press one button and you’re done!

Different circles make different sized flowers and if you have a die cutting machine you can use it to cut the circles and save even more time.
2. Fold the circle into four parts and draw a small mark on all sides of the folded circle as shown below. This will create a small circle in the middle.
3. Apply some glue on the small circle line you drew with the glue gun. Fold one of the edges as shown.

Try different circles and bunches in different sizes for an elegant look, or try stacking a small and a large flower for a big effect.

Hello everyone! I am so excited to be here today to share my first guest post. I will tell you a little about fabric origami, which is an interesting technique. As you all probably know, ori (folding) gami (paper) is often associated with Japanese culture and refers to the art of paper folding. But you can also fold the fabric, so this technique is interesting for all of us sewists. Fabric origami can be used on its own in a variety of sewing projects, or you can simply take inspiration from origami shapes and try to create a surface or structure that somehow mimics them. But that would be a whole other post, so let’s focus on origami that you can decorate with your own Oliver + S models, like me for example.
Easy Fabric Flowers {a Sewing Tutorial And A Free Pattern}
But I’ll warn you: once you’ve learned the basics of folding, you’ll only want to learn more. It is really very addictive! On the other hand, I’m sure we all have a lot of small scraps of fabric around the house, and origami is just a great way to get rid of them and turn them into something beautiful.
My first experience with fabric origami was fifteen years ago while on vacation in Florida. Over the years, the world has changed a lot and buying books online back then was not as easy as it is today. So one of my favorite things to do when going on vacation, especially outside of Finland, was to visit local bookstores and buy craft inspiration books. That’s how I found Fantastic Fabric Folding by Rebecca Watt. I marveled at her beautiful quilting projects with a touch of folded fabric and occasionally even tried to make some of them here at home. But the biggest step forward happened just this year, when I finally had enough patience, peace and quiet (I have four children) and understood how folded roses are made. I absolutely fell in love and decided to decorate my little girl’s dress with them.
Today you’ll see how cute I made a classic Oliver + S skater dress using the same 3D folded rose pattern from Watt’s book. I’ll also give some tips and share some photos in progress if you’re new to fabric folding.

This book contains eighteen easy-to-follow step-by-step pictures of roses. If you’ve never done origami before, I suggest you try it with paper first, as it’s easier to fold. Or at least start with cotton because it holds wrinkles well. I started with stretchy cotton and it wasn’t the easiest material. As you become more experienced, you can experiment with different colors, sizes, textures, and materials. For example, I used two colors and sizes of mixed linen fabric for this skater dress.
An origami rose consists of two squares of different sizes that are folded in an innovative way. First you create the octagonal base of the rose. These pleats are for larger squares and are easy to make. It is very important to press the folds firmly with your finger. It also came in handy when I traced the folded lines of the octagon with a fabric marker. If the fabric does not hold the folds well, the contours will help to correct them.
The hardest part of this origami is creating the actual rose and forming the “ear”. This is the part where I really needed patience and practice. But when I got it, I realized that I can make this rose very quickly.

After the problem part is finished, you still need to make the center of the rose. If the material breaks a lot, I recommend that this part be replaced, at least if the product is intended for daily use and
