Throw A Birthday Party

Throw A Birthday Party – Kids love birthday parties! You don’t have to spend a lot of money to make their celebration special either. A lavish extravaganza can be great, but most kids are perfectly happy with a fun day that doesn’t break the bank as long as it includes friends, interesting games or activities, and sweets. On my blog, Spaceships and Laser Beams, I specialize in parties; that means I have tons of ideas to help you plan yours! The birthday party theme, decorations, cake, favorites and imagination can create anything a child could wish for.

Creating a good atmosphere doesn’t have to be expensive. There are many expensive options online, including many free downloads.

One of your first decisions for a party should be the theme. Most children have a rotating list of favorites: favorite books, activities, movies, characters, colors. Somewhere on that list is a good idea for a party theme. For example, your son is in love with superheroes. Make it your theme, but create your superhero with all the superpowers you want him to have. If you don’t focus on the brand, you’re not tied to specific images and their costs.

The Dos And Don’ts Of Throwing Your Own Birthday Party

Make a guest list and send invitations. A phone call or electronic invitation costs nothing but time. If possible, I really like to send invitations because it speeds up the anticipation of the party when the kids get their mail. Create invitations with a themed picture of the birthday boy (in costume?) or decorate a postcard with themed drawings or stickers. Personal hand delivery works too!

Decorations add to the excitement of the party and there are so many options! Remember that color and texture combine for an interesting entertainment environment. Here are some ideas to get your imagination going:

– Create a table centerpiece that you can reuse for decorations in your home. This beautiful DIY trunk would be a great option.

– More of anything can add wow without being expensive. For example, imagine a room full of balloons; hang them from ribbons and flat pins from the ceiling, attach them to the wall, tie them to the curtain rods.

Create a table background with pictures of the birthday child in the form of their age. Repeat the old picture around the room, in different sizes and colors.

Does your son like cars? Use newsprint or cardboard to make large silhouettes and place them against the walls and on the tables.

Also look for ideas in your child’s toy box and build on that. Perhaps your child has many stuffed animals; use them as a base for a woodland themed party. Pictures of trees are easy to make on cardboard or paper.

Shop around your home and see how many items you have in a certain favorite color – take yellow for example. Use plates, napkins, balloons, ornaments, balls of yarn, toys, even clothes – all in yellow – and arrange them all to create a sparkling party.

Hang blue and green strips of crepe paper for an underwater effect. Giant, colorful fish and sea creatures made of paper or cardboard are easy to draw and make children feel like they are under the sea.

If you don’t have a tablecloth that matches your theme, use wrapping paper to make a colorful table runner. You will have many choices. Another idea is to use brown kraft paper or even newspaper (don’t forget to tape the edges under the table). Decorate with giant dots and segments of twisted ribbon. You can also provide cups with crayons or markers (which are washable!) and let guests use their imaginations to draw pictures that fit your party theme.

There are too many activity and food ideas to list here, but in general, if possible, tie the party activities and food choices to your theme. To use my superhero example from earlier: make an obstacle course with play tunnels, pillow hills, and cereal boxes. Your food choices may include “muscle food” or “hero mix”.

How To Throw A Simple Birthday Party

And speaking of food, you don’t have to provide an entire meal at a birthday party! A sweet cake or cookies will delight young guests. A limited menu is also easier on the budget. Include nuts or cheese sticks or other simple finger foods if you like. Remember that foods that can be eaten out of hand are best for children.

Sending party guests home with favors is common practice today. The favor can be as simple as a shaped cookie in a bag decorated with a small picture of something that fits your theme. A trip to your local dollar store will likely offer options as well, or you and your birthday child can make small gifts to share.

The most important thing to remember when throwing a party is that the kids will probably mirror your attitude. If you’re cranky and grumpy because you can’t buy a bunch of cool stuff, your kid will pick up on it. The reverse is also true: the excitement of creating a unique party for your unique child will help them feel special and create joyful anticipation for the celebration. Build wonderful memories for your kids and it doesn’t require an unlimited bank account!
