Weather Costumes – Finally, a rainbow costume!!! And a DIY family weather outfit to go with it! He had to ditch the wagon for this one. Of all the DIY costumes I’ve made, I’ve wanted to make a rainbow costume for years, but I’ve never liked the versions I’ve made for one person. The car just sealed the deal! It’s the perfect base, and then you just launch Arlo as a cute cloud. SOLD! There are many options to expand even a family weather costume, a lightning bolt, a sky, a cute tornado (!!), a snowflake, even a blizzard! So if you have more children (or friends, a group weather costume is also a lot of fun!), you have options. But to get you started, here’s how to make these three: the sun dress, the rainbow and cloud dress, and the rain dress!
For the sun outfit: Smooth foam hemisphere Yellow paint brush Yellow cardboard scissors Clear band Hot glue gun headband Yellow outfit (Here’s the outfit I wore!) For the rain outfit: Umbrella Cardboard scissors blue Glue stick Fishing line Sewing needle Blue outfit For the Rainbow Wagon + Cloud Wagon The child’s outfit: 40×60 “Foam core or cardboard sheet Box cutter paint in rainbow colors Brushes Ties Zip Pillow top White Onesie White felt (large enough to cover your cart, about 2 meters, depending on the width of the felt). ) Hot glue gun cart
Weather Costumes
For the Sun Costume: 1. Paint the yellow hemisphere. Let it dry. 2. While trying, cut your sun rays! Cut about 12-14 triangles (I made mine two different sizes, one shorter, one longer) from the cardboard. 3. Place all the triangles in a circle, overlapping each other. Secure with a piece of tape in the middle. 4. Hot glue the foam ball onto the triangles. 5. Hot glue a strip to the bottom of the triangles. 6. Couple with a yellow dress! For the rain costume: 1. Cut out about 40+ raindrops from cardboard. Having a cutting machine like a Cricut really helps! But you can also cut it entirely by hand. 2. Glue two raindrops, insert the end of a piece of fishing line between. I recommend leaving the fishing line long so you can cut it once you’ve started attaching it to the umbrella. Repeat with all the raindrops you cut! 3. The time of things to the umbrella. Pass the fishing line from one of the raindrops through the seam, and sew to the bottom of the umbrella. If you don’t want to sew, you can also glue the fishing line inside, but you run the risk of seeing the glue! Spaces at different lengths around the umbrella. 4. Couple with a blue dress! For the Rainbow Wagon + Cloud Toddler Costume: 1. Hot glue padding over the top half of a white onesie/PJ set. 2. Cut out a rainbow shape from the foam core/cardboard. It should be about 4-6″ wider than your car. 3. Paint the colors of the rainbow. It doesn’t have to be very precise! The color stripes can be different widths, I actually think it looks better that way! Let it dry ( p.s. Ignore the notches you see on the bottom of mine, which was a mistake I made when I was trying ways to attach to the cart!) 4. Wrap a piece of white felt from front to back around the cart and secure it. at the bottom, hot gluing the ends to themselves, then wrap another piece of felt, this time from one side to the other and do the same, at the bottom, try to cover all the fabric of the wagon to fill up to the felt. glue! 5. Hot glue filling all the felt to the outside of the cart. Again, it doesn’t have to be exact! 6. Use zip ties and tie to the metal part of the cart (assuming you use the cart style we use)!Hold the rainbow up to the side of the cart and figure out where you want to sit. Then drill two holes around the metal top of the cart on one side. Slip the zipper through the holes, connect through the back and pull taught. Then repeat on the other side.

For this costume, the blue dress was purchased on sale at Target. The rain jacket and bucket hat were found on Amazon.
It was made for a 6 year old boy. The blue dress was purchased from Amazon. We chose the clear sky to represent the sky. The foam sheets are 12″ X 18″ in size and were purchased from Hobby Lobby. The size you cut may vary, but the measurements below are for a size 6 in children.
The rainbow for this trick or treating bag is made from the leftover foam and fabric scraps after making the clothes. We had enough leftovers to make both sides of the bag.

Here are some pictures. Be sure to check out all of our family Halloween costumes from the past! Alright guys, that’s it. The 5th and final weather themed Halloween costume for this year. Aggggh….. what a crazy year it has been! I absolutely love making costumes, so I couldn’t leave out some weird health issues I’ve been having! But I’m not going to lie…I’m kind of glad our original costume plans didn’t work out because these weather costumes turned out to be so much fun and our 5 kids were such good sports about changing things up. something a little easier to put together! Speaking of easy, 4 of the 5 costumes this year were No-Sew designs…including today’s Weatherman outfit for Max. Truth be told, this Weatherman costume only took about 30 minutes to put together…but it might be the outfit that makes us laugh the most. Maybe it’s because Max is 2… and 2 year olds make costumes so much more fun! Eh.

“Alright folks, it looks like our storm has changed direction and is now headed! If possible, stay off the roads tonight until these storms pass.” (Lots of recovery Max, way to get some compost back!)
But you know, sometimes you can only do so much if those winds push you and carry you around. This weather man
