Amazon Email Scam – The above message arrived in my inbox this morning. It’s a lie. I don’t know how it got into the spam filter. We must be paranoid these days! it hurts. Let me give you some tips to keep you safe out there.
This message is from Amazon. It has the look and feel of Amazon email. If you look closely, there are a few mistakes that might catch your attention – note the capitalization of “We”, the omission of “Amazon” and the lack of a closed period in these sentences:

Be Alert For Amazon Scam Email
Let’s face it, most of us are in a hurry with email and are not accurate testers. It will be easy to press the button.
If you give out your Amazon credentials, you’re giving bad guys access to your Amazon account—including your credit card details. They still have to do something to hurt you; For example, Amazon requires credit card information to be re-entered from scratch before it can be shipped to a new address. But hackers can access other sources of information about you in other leaky places, and as a general life goal, you don’t want North Korean hackers to get into your Amazon account.
This example appears to be from Amazon. But the next message may come from Microsoft, your bank, UPS, the IRS, or your neighbor. None of these things. The only goal is to get you to stop waiting and click on a link to a malicious website that tries to install malware on your computer or trick you into giving out your password or credit card details.

If you’re not sure (and I don’t blame you, the posts can be very convincing), here’s another way to avoid the trap.
When you hover over a link in Outlook or Internet Explorer, a small window will appear showing you where the link goes. If the actual link doesn’t match the sender or what you expected, assume it’s malicious and don’t click on it.
. There are many services that take long links and convert them into shorter versions that are easier to type and take up less space. The best known is Bitly, but there are many others. A side effect is that it is impossible to tell where the links lead. X.co, the service used in the Amazon email scam, is operated by GoDaddy – completely legal, free, no login required.

Real Examples Of Fake Emails
It’s more obvious if you click the email button and land on a fake Amazon login screen. Click the sign in button above the sign in button and this is the link shown in the pop-up at the bottom of the Internet Explorer screen above.

The scam email says the user’s Amazon account and “all pending orders” have been suspended.
Fake Amazon Emails Sent By Hackers: How To Prevent Phishing Scams
It says: “We took this action because your payment information does not match the information on file with your card issuer.”
Add: “If we don’t complete the verification process within 3 days, all pending orders will be canceled.”
Amazon says: “A phishing email appears to be from a reputable source, but is actually being sent by a third party to obtain your personal information and allow you to open an application that contains malware or a link that directs the email to a potentially dangerous website.”
The online retailer tells customers not to “open any attachments or click on any links in emails or text messages.”

“Emails, text messages, or suspicious or fraudulent web pages not from Amazon.com may contain requests to update payment information unrelated to the Amazon order or Amazon service you’re signed up for,” they added.
This comes after an elderly Louisiana couple lost $60,000 from their bank account to an online scam.
According to Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard, the couple was contacted by an alleged Amazon agent claiming to have been hacked.
“The hacker was able to get into their bank account, took 60,000 from their savings and left it for inspection,” he said.

The hacker reportedly said he sent the wrong money, prompting the couple to send the money to the agency through the mail.
After that, the man asked the vulnerable couple to fire him if the so-called mistake was not corrected – he said that they would deposit the money immediately.
They concluded that they were then given a false warrant from the Louisiana State Police via email accusing them of embezzlement.
It prompted Chef Broussard to warn customers about the presence of hackers during the holidays – in addition to the importance of cybersecurity.

“Hackers are getting a lot better. “The first thing to remember is that the state police do not send warrants by email,” Broussard said.
“It’s bad enough that they’re taking money from people who work their whole lives to earn this money and save this money, but when you get law enforcement involved in their actions, you go to a new level.
“There are Grinches everywhere who want to steal the Christmas spirit, so we have to make sure we don’t let them in anyway,” he said.
If you receive an email or phone call claiming to be from Amazon, do not click on any links, call numbers, or provide sensitive information.
