These Are The Best Android Phones Under $500 In 2022!

We always test battery life in our reviews, so we have a large database of battery life test results. This helps us truly rate and compare smartphone battery experiences for you. To do this, you need to find a fairly repeatable way to test battery life. Here we are:

Android Phones With Best Battery Life

It’s a fairly simple but effective test that simulates demanding applications like graphics and gaming. Many tests run in one cycle until the phone runs out of juice. It’s a brutal test that serves as a worst-case scenario for battery life. The longer the phone can run in tests, the better the battery life will be in the real world.

The final results of the test are interesting for several reasons. First, of the three devices with 5,000 mAh batteries, only one made it into the top five. Even then, she and the runners were very close. This shows that battery size alone is not everything. A combination of hardware and software improvements play a big role in the overall picture. The Motorola Edge Plus, for example, finishes tenth despite having a larger 5,000 mAh battery. This is likely due to its 90Hz display, Snapdragon 865 chipset, and possibly not being optimized for software.

Phones With The Best Battery Life

There are a few general changes worth noting. The first is that Chinese brands look very good, in part due to Android adoption. Huawei and Xiaomi, for example, are known for aggressive software improvements to extend battery life. So it’s no surprise to see all three of this year’s P40 flagships in the top 10. Second, the best smartphones now offer more than five hours of screen time even with heavy use, which is pretty impressive. All but the OnePlus 8 Pro, with its 120Hz display, break the four-hour mark.

With that in mind, none of the top five phones in our results have 120Hz – only 60Hz or 90Hz. New high-end displays use a lot of juice. However, all the devices in the top six come with flagship processors. The LG Velvet, which came in seventh, has a mid-range Snapdragon 765G chip and a 60Hz display. Both use less power than their competitors, suggesting it should have been higher. Finally, the Velvet is inferior to the V60 ThinQ, which shares the same software but has a bigger battery. Finally, it’s hard to tell which phones are the longest by simply looking at the spec sheet.

Charging speed is the other part of the battery equation. The charging speed of smartphones has improved significantly over the past five years and companies these days advertise the fast charging technology as much as the battery. We test your download speed in every review we publish, so we’ve seen the progress firsthand. The charts below show the phones with the fastest charging speeds over time and also rated in mAh per minute. In other words, this reflects how quickly the charging technology charges the battery.

The Best Samsung Galaxy Phone 2022

Realme’s X50 Pro 5G actively takes the win here with the only result of more than 100 mAh / min, connected to 127 mAh / min. Although the Huawei P40 Pro Plus has the same battery, Realme charges its unit in less than half the time with SuperDart Flash Charge technology. What makes this even more surprising is the fact that the X50 Pro 5G is the third cheapest smartphone on this list.

The next best charging phone is the Oppo Find X2 Pro. BBK technology is hard at work here, allowing for a 43-minute charge thanks to its 99mAh/min rate. However, the result starts to follow the fourth result. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra charges much more slowly than the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, at 78mAh/min and 98mAh/min. Generally, most smartphones are fully charged in about an hour or less. Perfect if you need a quick boost.

And the winner is… Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro! She led by a healthy margin over the runners. However, the Mi 10 Pro only has a 4,500 mAh cell. This is far less than the V60 ThinQ, Galaxy S20 Ultra and others that beat the Mi 10 Pro. The excellent battery life is thanks to Xiaomi’s software optimization that works in the background to keep the phone powered up for long. This includes closing unused applications (a controversial practice), adjusting processor speed to match workload, and turning off features when not needed.

The Best Cheap Phones For 2022

There are hardware features that play a role in this as well. The FHD 90Hz display draws less power than its competitors’ QHD and 120Hz panels. Additionally, the device runs in 60Hz mode out of the box and it is up to the user to set the device to 90Hz in the settings menu. This lower charge rate significantly improves battery life as it consumes less power. If you’re interested, the Mi 10 Pro lasted almost 6 hours (second place) with 90Hz enabled. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro doesn’t come with permanent face unlock sensors either. Again, the choice of equipment saves energy compared to some of its competitors. Given the 5,000mAh cell, the Mi 10 Pro can hit the 500 minute mark – something no phone has ever done before.

However, this great battery life comes at a price. We found the Mi 10 Pro to take a slightly more conservative approach to peak performance compared to the similar Poco F2 Pro. This may explain its longer battery life, in addition to the continued increase in performance. On a similar note, Xiaomi seems to push its app output too far at times – blocking the original music and podcast programs you actually use. Xiaomi devices are also known for slow notifications as a result of cutting the network connection to save battery.

The numbers don’t lie. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro produced more than seven hours of screen time in our review. Our time in the lab confirms that it’s exactly what you can expect from a mobile phone. We’re impressed with how far you can push the Mi 10 Pro before topping it up. The device also ranked third in our battery charging tests, making for not only excellent battery life, but also a great overall battery experience.

Pixel 4a Review: The Best Phone Google Has Made In Years

We have the second best Android battery of mid-2020 – Huawei P40 Pro Plus and Huawei P40 Pro. Both share the same technical equipment and a 4,200 mAh battery, and have more than 6 hours of hard testing. Huawei is known for its heavy-handed approach to app development and RAM optimization, which really helps these phones stay ahead of the pack. The phone’s 7nm Kirin 990 processor is also very efficient.

However, these two phones are two of the most incompatible we’ve tested, thanks to their smart resolution and update rate settings. When displaying 3D content, the screen sometimes switches to 90Hz, but mostly stays at 60Hz. Also, the 3D display resolution is usually set to 1,760 x 800 instead of 2,640 x 1,200. This gave us test results between 5.5 and 7 hours, with more than 6 on average. You really don’t need to worry about your phone’s battery life, but results definitely vary.

Third place is a contested position, with the LG V60 ThinQ 5G nursing moments ahead of the Poco F2 Pro, Huawei P40 and LG Velvet. All of these headphones have more than 5 hours of testing time in the accelerated G speed test, ensuring they can easily last a full day or more. But the LG V60 just goes to show that the big 5,000mAh battery is still capable of taking the top spot. As we noted during our review, “Daily screen time easily topped five hours during the week, and even reached eight hours over two full days… the battery may be the V60’s best feature.”
