Woodwind Quintet Sheet Music Auld Lang Syne
While I wait for my 2 year old to fall asleep (which is taking SO long because she is so excited for her cousins ββto arrive tonight) I will keep my promise from today. via: this is free in my Teachers Pay Teachers store. This is my Auld Lang Syne PowerPoint PDF.
Since this poem dates from 1788 and is from Scotland, it has many different versions of its content. I have included the text that I believe is most popular in the United States. Now, a little history for you: it was written by Robert Burns and set to the tune of a traditional folding song: specifically Roud #6294. The Roud Folk Songs come from a collection of nearly 25,000 folk songs collected orally by Steve Roud, a former librarian in the London Borough of Croydon. Auld Lang Syne, a Scottish title that can literally be translated as “long old”, is traditionally associated with New Year’s Eve, but is also popularly sung at funerals, graduations and other ceremonies, meaning farewell or the end of an occasion.
My 5th graders are in official tom-tip practice mode so I thought this would be the perfect way to welcome them back and pick up where we left off. We begin by singing a song from these pictures:
Now that we’ve had a two-week break, let’s take a step back and review how we derived tom-ti from the quarter note to flat note relationship. The definition of harmony (joining two notes of the same pitch) will be important later in PowerPoint. (Another reason I wanted to repeat this is because in other areas of my lessons, through songs that involve games and musical instruments, the children will be singing and preparing physically and vocally. ti-tom and again we will use the tie to teach that rhythm . idea):

This slide uses slang not only between tom-ti, but also between tas and ti-tis. Here’s something new to talk about: the difference between bass and treble (above, bass combines two notes of the same pitch, bass combines two notes of different pitches).
And it’s good when the students sing the song in full pitch. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to get better at asking them to practice this daily. (A lot of work in 45 minutes!!!):
I wish you all a happy and healthy 2013!!! See you next year! π
