, a book I love with all my heart? Guess who has time to read to their kids every night, no matter how busy we are or what the time is? That’s right.
Likewise, if you haven’t picked up a book in a while, I’m guessing you won’t suddenly start finding time to read it.

But when you find something really interesting? Do it yourself at that time. Suddenly, when you’re sitting in the carpool line or before you go to bed, you find you have ten minutes to read, or you have less time to look at your phone because you can squeeze in another chapter.
I’ve never heard anyone say, “I need to make more time to watch shows on Netflix,” because people often only watch shows they really want to watch and really like.

If you’re looking for one of those books, these are twelve of my favorite totally fun, totally engaging beach reads.
It’s definitely in my top five books – I’ve read it at least three times and love it more each time. I know Leanne Moriarty is famous for Big Little Lies (which I also love – you can read my review here), but I think it’s even better, about a woman in her thirties at the gym who wakes up to what she’s been up to in the last ten years. He has no idea. She thinks she’s still in her 20s, madly in love with her husband and expecting their first child. Finding out ten years later, she already had three kids, and her marriage was falling apart, was a shock (understatement) to me. But Alice is determined to do the right thing at any cost.
Ten years ago my mom sent me these books after reading them, and I looked them up about a woman starting a little dating business in a matter of days, and of course it couldn’t be more complicated. This could definitely be one of those perfect beach reads (despite the caveat that the last book is pretty perfect. You’ve been warned).
Best Beach Reads For 2021 Checklist
Regan just broke up with her boyfriend (too cute for her) and luckily her best friend has recently become a teen sensation and they’re on a 24 city tour together so her attention is fine. Of course, another perfect distraction comes when the opening act joins the tour in the form of the very charming and very handsome Matt Finch. Summer without drama? Maybe not.
Imagine you are married to the love of your life. Then he has a plane crash and after years of grieving, you finally start to move on. And just when your new relationship is going well, it is discovered that your husband is not dead and has been rescued. I read it all night (and am slightly regretting it the next morning when my kids get up at the crack of dawn).
It’s not as well known to you as I am (which I wrote about here), but I think the dual storyline – one in modern times and one in World War II – is well done and I don’t know how it will work.
The Best Summer Beach Reads Of 2018
I’ve read almost every Emily Giffin book, but I still think her first book, Something Borrowed, is her best, about Rachel, always acting as second-in-command to her very lively and beautiful best friend, Darcy. It wasn’t until her 30th birthday that Rachel admitted to Darcy’s fiance that she had always had feelings for him and it turns out it wasn’t one-sided. As the wedding day approaches, Rachel must decide whether to let the wedding go ahead or, for the first time in her life, insist on what she wants. This is one of the best summer lessons ever!
With another royal wedding on the horizon this summer, now seems like the perfect time to read this hilarious novel based on the love story of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Full review here.
I love Rainbow Rowell and Attachments is one of my favorite beach lessons of all time (I also love Landlines – you can read my full review here). When Lincoln, who was tasked with monitoring the emails of a newspaper employee, saw two reporters writing personal emails through their office accounts, he knew he should tell them to stop, but he couldn’t look away and read, sucking himself in. Their lives, and possibly falling in love with a woman he’s never met in the process. Full review here.
The Best Beach Reads Of Summer 2020
Before I went to speak to Christine Gore in person, I read (and loved) two books of this hilarious book about a young woman working on Capitol Hill, and I loved them even more. They’re kind of silly, but pretty funny.
I think Sophie Kinsella is the queen of beach reads, but this is my favorite. The heroine has lost her heirloom engagement ring and her cell phone, so it seems luck is finally on her side when she finds it in the trash. It turned out that the mobile phone belonged to a businessman’s assistant, but he had sent the number to the neighborhood hoping to find his ring and refused to return it until he found the ring. I laughed my way through the entire book and writing it here makes me feel like I need to read it again.
This sweet book is written as if Jo from “Little Women” was a real person whose granddaughter found her letters in the attic. It’s so charming and perfect for how much I love Louisa May Alcott.
