Best Battery Life Cell Phones – I told you that MWC 2019 was going to be a weird show, but even I didn’t expect a company to be so wild about making a phone.
Battery. But here I am, in awe of the Energizer Power Max P18K Pop’s powerful boom. France’s Avenir Telecom licenses the Energizer brand and makes the most of devices that push the boundaries of innovation and health.

This dark blue part has a thickness of 18 mm, according to the Avenir spec sheet, but putting it side by side with a more common smartphone, I would say that the more accurate thickness estimate would be around 3.5 iPhone. This phone is great. Or is it technically the phone’s battery?

An excellent battery of this size better last a long time, and the Avenir promises a week’s use or two full days, 48 hours of continuous video playback. That seems conservative, as we’ve only spent a week on a phone with half as big a battery.
The Power Max P18K Pop’s 6.2-inch LCD screen surprised me: it’s not really terrible, it has minimal bezels and no dots or notches, and I’m happy to use it. Where’s the selfie camera, you ask? There is a pop-up module with
Selfie cameras, though I’ve only been able to do it occasionally. Other people have pushed that camera down when testing the phone, and the trick was working when I got the phone.
What’s The Deal With Cell Phone Batteries?
Three more cameras around the back, a MediaTek processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and Android 9 round out the spec sheet of this device. Oh, and it has fast charging, because with a battery of its size, fast charging is better. I was told a full charge would take eight hours.
If you’re starting to feel tempted by a phone that’s comparable in size to your gaming console’s Power Brick, let me assure you, this isn’t what you’re looking for. Performance is choppy and stuttering, and having one of these in your pocket or next to your face isn’t a particularly pleasant experience.
The Energizer Power Max P18K Pop will hit the market this summer, making it the world’s largest battery-powered phone. You shouldn’t trust mAh as your sole guide to a phone with the longest battery life, it’s a more complicated picture.
Here’s How 5g Could Be Impacting Your Iphone’s Battery Life
We do our best to test the battery life of each cell phone. However, it’s very easy to turn to a spec sheet, look at the mAh list, and make all sorts of assumptions based on a single number. This sometimes leads us to be fooled by poor battery life from the seemingly massive 4,000 mAh cell, or to wonder how long a smaller battery can last in phones like the Pixel 3a or iPhone SE.
A phone’s mAh rating is a relatively meaningless statistic when taken by itself. Battery life is actually a very complicated picture, with a wide range of contributing hardware and software variables. In this article, we’ll explore why you shouldn’t trust mAh as your only guide to a phone’s long battery life.
The abbreviation mAh that you find on battery specification sheets stands for milliampere-hours. This is a unit of electrical charge equivalent to supplying one milliamp of current (3.6 kilowatts of charge) continuously for one hour. A 1 mAh battery can supply 1 mA of current for one hour, while a 1,000 mAh battery can supply 1 mA for 1,000 hours. However, a 1000 mAh battery that provides 2 mAh only lasts for 500 hours. Of course, smartphones don’t last hundreds or thousands of hours because they draw more than 1 mA of current from the battery. The more current your phone is, the shorter the battery life.
Best Phone Battery Life 2022: The Longest Lasting Smartphones Ranked
All things being equal, a phone with a larger battery capacity will last longer. However, this is very rare, because the internal hardware and therefore the power consumption varies greatly. Phone A may consume 10%, 20% or 30% more power than Phone B.
The unique hardware and software in each smartphone means no two are ever the same. That’s why simply knowing the mAh battery capacity doesn’t give you any useful information about expected battery life.
Before we dive into the “why” a little deeper, let’s do some experiments! With our in-house G speed tester, we run phones of various specifications and battery capacities and record how long it takes to drain the battery. Speed Test G is a very aggressive stress test, so these results represent the minimum screen time you can expect from these smartphones. The results are listed on increasing battery capacity.

There is no clear and obvious trend from our results. We might expect to see a roughly consistent increase in battery life as capacity increases, but this is not the case.
While our giant 5,000mAh and 6,000mAh phones offer the longest battery life in our extreme stress test, it’s the 3,700mAh Google Pixel 3a XL that lasts the longest here. All this thanks to its low-profile features, so don’t kill small batteries! Similarly, the difference between the 3,700mAh Pixel 4 XL and the 5,000mAh Asus Zenfone 6 is only a few minutes, highlighting that capacity alone is not a guarantee of long or short battery life.
The most noticeable trend from our results is that most phones actually fall under stress from 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours. This seems to be the sweet spot most manufacturers aim for, even considering the light processing loads. The 2,800 mAh Google Pixel 4, the 4,000 mAh Galaxy S20 (Exynos model) and the 4,510 mAh OnePlus 8 Pro all drain within minutes.
Best Phones (2022)
Obviously, different hardware specs and software features drain their batteries in different ways. But what exactly are these differences?
The battery powers all the hardware in your smartphone, from the processor to the display and other features packed into your phone. This is obvious, but different parts of the equipment contain more or less liquid. For example, low-end and mid-range processors use less power than their high-end counterparts. In general, higher performance requires more power. This is why affordable phones usually have longer battery life than premium phones for any battery capacity.
But as we have seen, even high-end flagships can have very different levels of energy consumption. Check out the situation with the Samsung Exynos and Snapdragon Galaxy S20 flagships. Manufacturers can also upgrade or bypass chips or even change the CPU schedule to get the performance and power points they prefer.
How To Increase Laptop Battery Life
There are some good examples of accessories that drain battery juice. The Google Pixel 4 and the Soli Radar system are a prime example of a feature that drains a phone’s battery more than it would otherwise. Including a time-of-flight camera focus system, more powerful stereo speakers or a 4K display all affect battery life. It even adds something as small as charging the S Pen to recent Galaxy Note phones, though. These features make the handsets unique, but they come at a price.
The trend in fast refresh rate screens plays a big role in why smartphones use so much power. This is apparently why the Samsung Galaxy S20 series phones are stuck at 60Hz out of the box, even though they technically support 120Hz. The Pixel 4’s 90Hz mode is also tied to screen brightness to save battery life. The reason is that the faster the screen content refreshes, the more power the phone’s screen and processor use.
Want more examples? Did you know that the 4,300 mAh OnePlus 8 with its 90 Hz display has better battery life than the 120 Hz OnePlus 8 Pro with its larger 4,510 mAh battery? Otherwise, the two phones have pretty much the same specs in terms of how much screen and refresh rate they have on battery life.
Phones With The Best Battery Life In 2022
Battery life isn’t just a hardware consideration. Smartphone software can affect battery life by removing background apps to reduce CPU usage and wake-up. For example, Huawei’s EMUI is more aggressive in this regard than Samsung’s One UI.
MAh vs. Another recent trend complicating the battery life issue is the rollout of 5G. 5G modems and radio components require more power than their previous generation 4G counterparts, meaning your battery won’t last as long if you’re on a 5G network. Complicating matters further, different 5G modems and chips use different power levels.
Mid-range chips like the Exynos 980 and Snapdragon 765G should use built-in 5G modems that consume slightly less power than premium-level external modems used in flagship smartphones. That’s partly because phones like the LG Velvet and the Google Pixel 5 are set to ditch Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line chipset, the Snapdragon 865. Another power vs
