A few days ago, I just received a bundle of love from one of my friends on Instagram and she sent me this super cute palette from BH Cosmetics and it’s their Illuminate 12 Color Eye & Cheek Collection by Ashley Tisdale. And this is the Beach Goddess palette. This is a gorgeous palette for everyday looks.

Now talking about the palette, the Illuminate palette comes in a sturdy white cardboard packaging with pink and gold colors playing around. It has a protective plastic sheet with the shade names written on it. The palette comes with a large inbuilt mirror, which is very nice. And the palette is so lightweight that it is easy to take with you on any vacation or on any trip.
The palette has a mix of mattes and shimmers, mostly shimmery. This palette is a basic, almost everyday wearable shade, and no overdose. The shadows are very soft and very blendable. The lighter shades are a bit too pale and chalky on darker skin tones like mine. The shimmers are soft and apply smoothly on the lids. Applying the shimmer shadows with fingers worked better than a brush, and with pigmentation too. The eyeshadows have good pigmentation too. The pinks and the warm browns can be used as blush and bronzer for the face, they are shimmery, but I’m not a shimmery kind of person, I like my blushes and bronzers/contours matte. So, all in all, this BH Cosmetics Illuminate palette served better as an eyeshadow palette and not just any face/cheek palette for me. Where I got it: I ordered it from the BH Cosmetics website for $14.50. I’ve never actually visited their website before but I’ve heard of the brand. I was so happy to see their really affordable prices and their shipping to New Zealand is really reasonable! I ordered it on 5/9/16 and it arrived on 16/9/16.

How I found it: The palette comes in a sturdy cardboard flip open packaging with a decent sized mirror. It would have been better if there was a magnetic closure on the palette. There are “highlighter” shades but I would say blush, highlighter and bronzer. The highlighter shade st. Lucia is quite a dark highlighter with a very fine shimmer. The blush shade Bermuda is a very soft pink with a hint of golden shimmer that is really subtle. The bronze shade Seychelles is a matte chocolate brown bronzer that is quite pigmented so a very light hand will do.
The rest of the eyeshadow shades are quite earth-toned with a nude, brown and golden theme. These shades are really easy to wear for almost all skin tones. I love using Fiji, Maui and Bora Bora as my main eyeshadow. Aruba and Barbados are near my lash line or the outer corner of my eyes. St. Bart’s and Belize as the main shadow at night. The darker colors – Tahiti and Cabo will be my brow bone. Bora Bora again in my inner corner.
Overall: The palette is really easy to wear shades for both day and night. The packaging is standard – in a cardboard case, but without a magnetic closure. The value of this palette is pretty good with 9 eyeshadow shades and 3 face color shades. The blush is a nice pink shade, but the highlighter is a bit too deep for my skin. The bronzer is also a great shade. It has a decent sized mirror, but would have preferred a larger mirror that covers the entire lid space. The pigmentation is excellent and there is little to no fall-out. I will be ordering more palettes from BH Cosmetics – they are so affordable! I’m not sure if I told you guys here on the blog, but at the end of the school year Urban Decay released the Alice Through the Looking Glass Eyeshadow Palette and I told myself that as a reward for completing the year I would buy this for himself. Over time I’ve been looking for it and even though it’s so pretty, I’ve gone back and forth between wanting to spend $60 on 20 shades, of which I’ll probably only use 10-12 on a regular basis.

Around the same time I started following Ashley Tisdale on Snapchat (@ashleymtisdale) and saw that she was coming out with a makeup line with BH Cosmetics. So the other day I went on the website and decided to buy $60 worth of products from the Illuminate collection instead of urban decay.

For about $62, I got so much more than if I bought a palette. I bought both the “Beach Goddess” and “Night Goddess” palettes which each have 12 eyeshadows, 1 blush, and 2 bronzers/highlighters. I also got two Enhancing Lip Glosses in “Skinny Dipping” and “Tan Lines” and a Cream Cheek & Lip Tint in Cabana.
Above I swatched glosses and tints on my arm. I was also going to wear both palettes, but since I’m so pale, some of the colors don’t show up in the photo, as you can see it’s still hard to bring out “Cabana” on my skin tone. I love all the colors and I used the “Beach Goddess” palette when I went to a birthday party the other day and all the shades looked beautiful.

The packaging on all the products is beautiful, even the cardboard packaging they come in is beautiful. I love that the palettes are a great size to put in your bag if you’re going away for the weekend, they have magnets on them to keep them closed so you don’t have to worry about products breaking during travel or opening. Your bag is a big mess. The prices are also amazing. The palettes are $18 each and the glosses and tints are $9 each.
The only thing I don’t like about the palettes is that the names of the colors are on a plastic insert and I really like them printed next to the color on the packaging. I know the color name may not be that important, but I would like to know what they are called. Plus, I imagine Ashley Tisdale put some time and effort into coming up with the names so it would have been nice if they weren’t cast, plastic inserts. I also wish there was a brush that came with the palette so that’s all you have to bring, but I know that’s hard because the palette doesn’t just have eyeshadows, so you’ll need an eyeshadow and a face brush.
I am so excited to continue using the products I bought and even before I used them I knew I wanted to buy more. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to pull off another make-up splurge, but when I do, I intend to get more from this collection.
