The mother of a Cornwall teenager who died after taking drugs has spoken of the night her daughter died.

Rita Hole said she and her family are devastated after the death of Shakira Pellow on July 7.

With three friends, Shakira was in a park near her home in Camborne when she took a blue tablet believed to be MDMA or ecstasy, branded with the name “Duplo”, after at the children’s Lego.

Three other 15-year-old children were also taken to the hospital and later recovered. Shakira died in hospital of multiple heart attacks and organ failure the next day.

Now his mother Rita Hole has urged others not to experiment with drugs. It comes after two teenagers were taken to hospital recently in Devon after taking pills believed to be MDMA.

In an interview with BBC Radio Cornwall, Hole spoke about the horrors of the week leading up to her daughter’s death. He also spoke to Cornwall Live about the impact the disease has had on him and his family.

Recalling the night of July 7, Rita said: “I came home from work at 10pm. I knocked on the door and said he had collapsed in the park. I never thought it would be this heavy.”

He said police took him to the Royal Cornwall Hospital where Shakira was being treated. That’s when the family took a picture of him lying on his bed, not knowing that he wouldn’t make it through the night.

Speaking about the months since the accident, he said: “I can’t get over it. It’s really hard, I’m trying to keep going. I have good days, bad days, I have three grandchildren, so I have to keep going for my family.
