Do It Yourself Superhero Costumes

With all the superhero movies that have come out in the last few years, it’s no surprise that my son loves superheroes. Dress like them. Play video games inspired by superheroes. Play with action figures. Play a board game inspired by superheroes. If it has to do with superheroes, you’re on board.

So instead of dressing up as a specific superhero or character this year, I thought it would be fun to come up with family DIY superhero costume ideas for each member of our family. This way there is no need to pretend to be someone else – my child can be his own hero – Captain K.

Making these DIY superhero costumes is super easy with my Cricut maker, which cuts anything for you guys. You’ll see what I mean in the tutorial below – for this project I cut, foil, leather and fabric. The Creator does all this with effort.

It uses up to 4kg of force, which means it can literally cut through hundreds of materials, from the most delicate fabrics to the thickest materials like the leather I used for this project!

It’s just amazing. I also have a Cricut Explore Air, but it’s not the same cutting ability. The maker cuts everything the Explore can do, and more!

So let’s talk about the DIY superhero costume ideas I came up with. No matter how beautiful my children are. I am not biased at all.

Instead of writing them after any particular superhero, I went with a DIY superhero mask, a cape with our initials on it, and leather cuffs because that seemed like the way to complete my costume! You can skip the cuffs if you want, but I’m telling you – wearing leather as part of a female superhero costume will make you feel powerful and very fit.

The Best Superhero Halloween Costumes Of 2022

I made two different types of mask designs because I thought one was feminine, almost cat-like, and the other was masculine. I also tried two different sizes for kids and adults, but to be honest, the kids size was too small for my five year old and the regular adult size fit him better.

I make masks without felt because I think they are more flexible and comfortable on your face. You can try other types of things, but I highly recommend the experience I linked to in the list below.

The first thing you need to do is open this mask file in Cricut Design Space. It comes with two masks with pre-cut (elastic) pores so you don’t have to make them yourself. These two mask patterns are included with Cricut Access (get them here if you’re not a member) If you don’t have Cricut Access, they’re $0.99 each if you make a file.

I will have files with different colors for each mask. If you need to customize the file to add more masks, make the masks the same color or change the size of the file – just click the customize button. When you’re ready, just click to do this and you’re ready to start cutting.

When the cut screen appears, place the felt on the 12 × 12 fabric pad. Load the mat and make sure the rotary blade is loaded in the Cricut Maker. A rotary blade is better for precision cutting because it glides, folds and turns to cut seamlessly in any line. It’s only available in Maker, but it’s a complete game changer, especially if you want to cut fabric.

Make sure the cutting screen detects your Cricut, select Felt as the material, then select Rotary Blade (if it’s not already selected), and continue cutting.

Prepare to be surprised – the spinning blade makes me want to cut through everything it feels like. like all of them.

Once the mask is all cut out, it’s time to add your elastic. Simply slide the end of the elastic through the hole cut in the front and hot glue to the back of the mask. Cut the elastic to the right size and do the same on the other side.

Don’t make the same mistake of accidentally gluing one side to the front and the other to the back – not so good!

Serving Pink Lemonade: Simple Super Hero Costumes

I have to be honest – I didn’t actually make the dress myself. I bought blank coats already made and customized them with my Cricut Maker. But guess what, I showed my son yesterday and he was very happy to sleep. He just wants to run around pretending to be Captain K. I rarely do things for him with his name or initials, so he was very happy. He didn’t care that I didn’t make a real cape.

If you want to make your own coat, more power to you! Here is a great tutorial for sewing a superhero cape.

One of the keys here is to choose colors that complement your superhero cape. I know my son likes red so I chose a red cap with green letters. For me, I like pink, so I chose pink, black and red. Don’t you just love the contrast of the white polka dots against the bright pink cap? This would be a great project for some Fat Quarters or any of these Cricut fabric bags. They come in a variety of beautiful colors and patterns.

Easy Diy Ways To Dress Up While At Home With The Kids

First, open a new file in Cricut Design Space. Instead of rendering the file I created, open a new file and add this image to your project. Also included with Cricut Access, or as $0.99. Or you can use the one I created…

To turn this shape into a solid shape, simply place a rectangle over the cap covering the characters (do not exceed the shape limit), then select both objects and choose Weld. This welds the two materials together to form a solid shape to be cut. This is one of my favorite tips, especially as a way to use custom Cricut Access Artwork in your projects!

Resize your shape as needed to make it the size you want the back of your superhero cape to be. I chose 11.5 width for the adults cape and 10 width for my son’s cape so it wasn’t difficult for him.

Ways To Build Your Own Batman Costume

Once your shape is the right size, click Done to cut your fabric. Choose your machine, cotton fabric and rotary blade. Place the fabric on the fabric pad, wrong side up, and load into the Cricut Maker. Cut your shapes from the first piece of fabric and repeat until all of your fabric shapes are cut.

In books, you just want to pick something bold that looks like a superhero. I chose the Boink Com font, which is a Cricut Access font, because I thought the letters looked like a superhero cartoon.

Once you’ve chosen your font, resize your letters to fit the shape you just cut. This will ensure that your vinyl fits snugly against the fabric without hanging on the cape.

Finish creating your book and click Do This. This time you choose your maker and foil stamping foil. Place your metal foil on the StandardGrip mat, colored side down, and load into your Maker.

This is important – before cutting any characters, make sure to click edit on each image and click the button next to the mirror – this will mirror your images to iron them correctly.

Cut out your individual letters, then use a weeding tool to remove the extra vinyl around the image.

When cutting letters, preheat the EasyPress2 to 295 degrees and 35 seconds – recommended settings in this EasyPress setup guide.

If you don’t know what EasyPress is, here is my guide to its magic. The EasyPress2 is even better—it has a higher temperature, heats up faster, and comes in three sizes, including a mini 6″x7″, a large 12″x10″, and a regular 9″x9″. It’s a beautiful raspberry pink shade!

To do this, place the fabric on my EasyPress mat, use the EasyPress2 to quickly smooth and heat the fabric, then place the foil on top.
