Drive Ryan Gosling Soundtrack – I don’t say this often: I loved this movie. The stars aligned for Drive, featuring a dynamite cast, stunning cinematography and set design, a pitch-perfect score, and a supremely talented director finally coming into his own with a gritty dime-store paperback crime saga script.
Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn is like an artistic Tarantino; His work has always clearly referenced earlier films, but unlike Tarantino’s beloved B-movie grindhouse, Refn draws inspiration from the gods of cinema: Bresson, Bergman, Scorsese, Lynch and (especially) Kubrick.

Drive stars Ryan Gosling as the eponymous driver (already, a reference to the movie Hill ), a Hollywood stuntman and low-paid auto mechanic by day and a super-cool getaway driver by night. “You’ve had me for five minutes,” he tells his partners in crime, referring to the time he’s been waiting for them. “If anything happens in those five minutes, I’m yours.”
The driver is a classic coder: he keeps everything within reach. This includes his mechanic boss Shannon (Bryan Cranston), who offers him other jobs and makes a deal with Jewish mobster Bernie Ross (Albert Brooks) and his partner Nino (Ron Perlman). Racing car. In his treatment of these characters, Driver is as innocent as a child, but there is something very dark lurking beneath.
Driver also feigns innocence when dealing with neighbor Irene (Carey Mulligan) and her young son. He is afraid to approach them, but he can’t help it. When Irene’s husband Standard (Oscar Isaac) is released from prison and forced into a heist to pay off old debts, Driver steps in to help – with disastrous results.

The performances are outstanding. Gosling became one of the best actors of his generation, unafraid to take risks in films like Lars and the Other Girl, and in Half Nelson, Blue Valentine and now Drive, he gave three of the most memorable performances in recent memory. . Supporting roles include Brooks, who sinks his teeth into Bernie Rose’s Slimmy and enjoys every bite – where has he been for the past decade?
Newton Thomas Siegel’s cinematography, set in the present day (presumably), perfectly captures that chic 1980s LA vibe; It is greatly helped by the flawless set design with elements such as the driver’s jacket with an embroidered scorpion. Things like this help the Danish filmmaker capture America better than most American films. Even the neon pink headlines feel right.
Cliff Martinez’s haunting, synth-infused score is reminiscent of 1980s Tangerine Dream and Vangelis soundtracks; Some excellent song choices are found elsewhere, including Night Call by Kavinsky & Lovefox, which opens the film, and A Real Hero College, which features Electric Youth. This is my favorite soundtrack since Daft Punk’s work on last year’s TRON: Legacy.
Drive Tour Turns Movie Soundtrack Into Live, Moody Pop
While I admired Refn’s previous films—Bronson, Valhalla Rising, Fear X, and the Pusher trilogy—I actively enjoyed them. Not so here: it’s a compelling, superbly constructed and ridiculously entertaining affair; With a concise, meticulously crafted screenplay (Hossein Amini) from James Salis’s novel, Refn works wonders.
Drive Refn won the best director award at Cannes this year ahead of Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life) and Lars von Trier (Melancholia). As appropriate.

Zane Lowe and BBC Radio 1’s Nicolas Winding Refn will re-record the score for Drive, bringing in some of the country’s top artists to record its iconic soundtrack.
The 2011 film’s soundtrack played a big role in its success, featuring songs by Kavinsky, Desire, College and more.
Chvrches has already released a new song titled “Get Away” featuring Foles, SBTRKT, Banks, The 1975, Baauer, Banks, Bastille, Bring Me The Horizon, Eric Prydz, Jon Hopkins, Laura Mvula, The Neighborhood and ZCC. (Simon Neill) is also expected to appear in new music.

Without being brazenly retro or overly obvious, the score is an effective companion to the film and its songs. With throbbing percussion, keyboards and dissonant strings, Martinez has a knack for creating an understated soundscape that never intrudes. The film’s most violent moments – the aptly named “Kick Your Teeth” and “Skull Crushing” – have less of a chilling undertone – making these scenes in the film even more startling and raw. French pop artist Kavinsky’s electro number “Nightcall” opened the headlines. The call-and-response melody, a brilliant cue from film editor Matthew Newman, complements the story’s romantic plot: Gosling’s robotic, stoic driver (unnamed in the film, like the antihero of a Western) is his love. Lovefoxx (Brazilian singer of CSS), played by Carey Mulligan, has a soft, bubbling voice. It’s strange how beautiful the lyrics are (“I call you at night to tell you how I feel / I’d like to drive you through the night, over the hills / I’ll tell you something you don’t want to hear / I’ll show you where it’s dark but not the fear se”) and works well with the sound of the music. Or – this song sounds like it was originally written for a movie.
Only God Forgives
Desire’s twee girlpop “Under Your Spell,” with its repeating chorus and beat, pops beautifully in the film as a love theme and party theme song—sounding thunderous behind a wall and closed doors. The lyrics also suggest what the film is trying to do – the film is an action film, but also a mood piece, a quiet character study.
Composer Riz Ortolani (whose music is often used in the works of Quentin Tarantino, an obvious influence on the film) provides a stunning, elegant composition, “Oh My Love.” The operatic moment in the soundtrack is the painful voice of the Italian singer Katina Ranieri. The song that stuck with me after the movie is “A Real Hero” by College and Electric Youth. In the end, it’s a fitting closing theme: a bright and uplifting softness that contrasts nicely with the film’s ambivalence.

After all the hype from Cannes, where Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn won Best Director, and the throngs of people looking for photos of star Ryan Gosling at TIFF, I was excited to see.
Tokestatic was generally positive, but audience reception was mixed (it has a low CinemaScore audience rating of C-). This is no ordinary movie
