If you can use it, you don’t need any proprietary software. In this article, I will introduce some useful features called Google Scholar Search, My Profile, My Library, Alerts, and Metrics.

Google Scholar My Library
This function is just like Google Search. You can search for anything related to academics including papers, authors, institutions. Below is an example of a search for “Jeffrey Hinton”.

By clicking on Jeffrey Hinton’s link, you can see his profile as the image below. His majors, his theses (title, authors, and events) are sorted by number of citations or year. Total number of citations for his years with his index and i10-index and his co-authors. In particular, you can follow him by clicking the follow button to see his latest posts delivered to your email.
Or by searching for institutions, such as “Stanford University,” you can see its top authors by reference.
Or by searching for a specific paper, such as “dynamic routing between capsules” you can find its authors, forwards, abstract, total number of citations (you can click on this link to see which papers cite this paper. ) and can view related articles. You can also view the PDF version by clicking the PDF link to the right of this paper (if available) or you can link your institution for free access to non-free papers from Springers or Natures.
