I remember hearing about geese, maybe from childhood history books, but I never knew what it was. It looks like something out of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory to me.

Why are they called geese? If their leaves were like the soft feathers of a goose, that would be great, but I doubt it. According to Wikipedia, this is probably because the French word for “gooseberry” is groseille à maquereau which means “mackerel berries” because they are used in mackerel sauce in old French cuisine. Who knew this fruit was so delicious!
