Graphic Novels For Young Adults – My 12-year-old daughter, Roxanne, is an avid reader. Actually, the habit of reading is very difficult to describe. She devours books. She will read almost anything, but her favorite books are graphic novels.
I’m not sure if we had graphic novels when we were little We had comic books and they seemed to be mostly aimed at boys Fortunately times have changed and today there are wonderful empowerment stories that are aimed at the number and teenagers with words and with pictures. These books are beautifully illustrated and very well written. They are written by a diverse group of authors and cover a wide range of content

Roxanne and I sat down last week, and she compiled this list of graphic novels that she finds particularly empowering. These are books that feature female protagonists and children of diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds.They deal with issues of gender, race, class, and identity. Roxanne loves every one of these books (and she seriously reads every graphic novel in our public library).
