How To Make Paper Folding Christmas Wreaths

How To Make Paper Folding Christmas Wreaths – After making all the snowflakes in my winter wonderland at home, I started folding paper. Not long ago I was looking for Christmas origami ideas and found this origami Christmas Wreath tutorial (after finding this cute version on Go Origami). The tutorial is in Portuguese, but the pictures really tell the story (and Google Translate will fill in the gaps!).

A pack of origami paper squares was in a bag I bought at an arts and crafts store. I took out the green and red paper and started folding it. (The green was a little more Kermit than Christmas, and the red was a little washed out, but it will do!).

The first star took a while to make, but I got the rhythm after 2-3, and they were easy to make after that.

I finished my stars with extra folds to make them slightly square and star shaped. The tutorial doesn’t show you how to fold the third and fourth edges without folding what you did, but I figured out how to do it with a little experimenting and it saved me quite a bit of time. Here’s a little tutorial (as a supplement to the first tutorial):

1. Follow the instructions from the first blog to fold the first two edges of the star so it looks like this.

2. Fold one of the remaining edges up so that the point meets where the two diagonal folds meet, just behind the square, with the base of the fold below the middle square.

6. Fold the last edge to meet the point you just made (when the crease line is at the bottom of the square).

9. To make the back part of the star less square, turn the star over and cut a small notch in the center of each square part (there should be a crease here).

10. Fold two pieces on each side of the square, creating a sharper angle at each point of the square.

12. Make 7 more stars and glue them together to make a crown, keeping the long end of one star under the point of the next star but above the square to keep it in place.

Such a wreath may seem complicated, but it is very easy to make. It consists of 8 identical parts that are easily connected. No glue is needed, although you may need to use a little double-sided tape to attach the ornament.

I decided to go with the classic Christmas green origami paper, but you can use any kind of paper you like. You can make them from gift wrap, old magazines, scrapbooks or anything else you can think of.

This mini paper wreath only requires a few simple materials: origami paper, scissors, jewelry and some ribbon for hanging.

You can easily customize the wreath with any color scheme you want. Make them green and crimson like I did, or go with pretty pastels or silver if you’re going for a glittery, sparkly look.

Personally, I can’t get enough of green, yet it doesn’t say anything like the traditional combination of red and green.

Each rectangle should be twice as wide as it is. The easiest way to do this is to take 4 squares of paper, fold it and cut it in half.

7. Your origami should have two pockets at the top. These are the pockets you use to place the next piece.

10. Two points from the piece on the right side slide into two pockets on the edge of the left side.

I used 14 (each) of the berries and mystery leaves to make a 14 inch wreath. Copy these four parts.

Next we focus on the holly and spruce leaves. They have dotted lines that must be placed. First select the row, then select SCORE from the action’s “Action” dropdown.

The last step is to attach the dividing line to the page. Select both the break and score line, and then click ADD.

After adding divider lines to the three visible pages, use the Duplicate button on each. For the holly leaves I used 54 of each color and ten spruce leaves.

Optional: To save paper, you can rotate the pages on the mat and staple them together. Then move the leaves from another mat to reduce waste.

After all the leaves are cut, you can shape them. On the central line, I gently fold the holly and spruce leaves. I then used my dotting tool to bring back the edges of the pages. Don’t worry about perfection. The leaves are different, so it doesn’t matter if they look a little damaged.

Cover the foam wreath with tape. When I first finished I added a red ribbon ring to hang. The ribbon is attached to the foam crown with hot glue.

It’s time to start gluing the holly leaves. Put some hot glue on the bottom of the leaves and start making V shapes for the front of the wreath; Continue around the wreath, alternating colors and spaces.

Continue gluing the leaves around the flower and add a wreath shape to the outside and inside.

After the holly leaves cover the wreath, it’s time to add the mistletoe, berries and spruce leaves. I placed them under the holly leaves around the wreath.
