How To Throw A Dog Birthday Party – This year my son turned 12 and requested a dog themed birthday party…what fun! As usual everything came together for a fun party which all our guests enjoyed. A key idea was to serve food in dog bowls that looked like the food the dog actually eats which made for lots of fun moments as the boys ate their treats.
A “rough” idea of what we served our guests after they arrived at the dog party:

The cake (yes, it’s really a cake) was made from two brownie mixes, baked in a stainless steel mixing bowl, and turned into this dog bowl I bought at the Dollar Tree. After it cooled, I covered it with chocolate frosting and then covered the top of the cake with Girl Scout Thin Mint cereal found at the grocery store. I’m not sure if it’s a limited edition or seasonal cereal, but it looks like dog food (I didn’t mention it to General Mills!) Originally, I was planning on getting the Cocoa Puffs, but when I saw the skinny. Mint cereal, I knew it was the best choice!
How To Plan A Pajama Party For Your Dog
This black lab from Build-A-Bear has been kept in the attic for several years, but I’m glad he was able to make an appearance at our dog party! The dog house I bought from an old shipping box, red tag board, and black foam core board from Dollar Tree. The total cost for the dog house was only $3.07. I love these Scooby Dog bone shaped graham crackers I found them in a snack size package on Amazon and a box of Cinnamon Scooby Graham Crackers at our local Winco.
Who among us hasn’t eaten refried beans and thought, well, it looks like wet dog food? I added taco seasoning to give it a little more flavor and it worked perfectly as a bean dip paired with a bowl of tortilla chips.
These puppy chewy pepperoni sticks were a big hit with the boys Do pepperoni sticks look like dog chews or do dog chews look like pepperoni sticks? Either way, delicious!
Steps For Throwing A Dog Birthday Party On A Budget (+ Free Printables!)
I discovered this pupu chow recipe a few years ago when I first got married and all my friends were hosting live sales parties indoors (think Pamped Chef, etc.). A friend of mine made this puppy recipe and I couldn’t keep my hands off the bowl…it was like cracking (which I don’t know). I rarely make this recipe because it’s hard to resist, but it’s a great sweet potato treat for special occasions.
These water bowls inspired the boys to “lick” the jello instead of using a spoon, you know, the way dogs lick water! It might be out of hand… a little! (Very good!)
This dog lollipop is from Oriental Trading Company and is part of the goodies I added to their doggie bag to take home at the end of the party.
Reasons To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday And Our Recommendations!
My birthday boy requested mini “purpurini” pizzas from Papa Murphy’s and all the guests enjoyed making their own customized pizzas for dinner.
Each place setting on the party table includes a dog nose mask from Oriental Trading and a small dog bowl used for serving dessert. When it came time for cake and ice cream, I served everyone in separate doggie bowls and put them all on the floor. When the boys found their bowls lined up on the floor, they didn’t hesitate to dig first and foremost. There is no silver lining for these children! It was so much fun watching them slowly cover their faces in cake and ice cream!
I was able to find almost all of the party decorations and some of the food at my local dollar tree! A breakdown of what I bought at Dollar Tree for this dog party:
