I prefer interchangeable rods because they give me a little more flexibility in style. If I want loose waves, I just wear a different size barrel than I was using to give me defined curls. Whether I shave or straighten my hair, the same curling iron will give me what I need if it has different barrel sizes.

How To Make Straight Hair Curly: Tips And Tricks

This is my favorite stick – Trio Flourish. You could say I’m biased – I mean, I created this to have everything you could want or need. This is my personal tool, trust me when I say, it’s the best. I won’t go into the details of how to access the website here but there are a few things you need to consider before you start curling.

There are three common sizes of curling rods, 32mm barrel, 25mm barrel and 19mm barrel. I believe there are reasons to have all three because they are all different! The 32mm barrel is great if you have long or medium hair and want big, loose or voluminous hair. 25mm is the most versatile size and works for all hair lengths. It creates more defined curls but the beauty of that size is that those curls will relax over time and you can wear them day after day. It’s safe! The final size is 19mm which is very CUTE for short hair. I have here some examples of what some sizes look like in several different models with different heights and lengths.

It’s safer for your hair if you can leave your hair in a warm tub instead of as hot as it can go and go through quickly. Keep that in mind when choosing your temperature but in general I recommend everyone start at 350. You can go up to 450 if you have coarse hair but if you don’t have coarse hair this will cause damage. If you have fine hair, start at 300 and then just play around with it from there! Get rid of irons or irons that only have an on/off switch. It ruins your hair!

There are many materials, titanium, tourmaline and ceramic to name a few! I prefer titanium and believe it is for all hair types and textures – your heat preference will determine how safe it will be for your hair. Titanium is a more expensive metal. It even has heat distribution to give permanent curls + it releases negative ions that reduce frizz and bind hair strands to make them shiny and beautiful for longer.

Now that those three things are out of the way, we’re ready to learn how to iron hair!

This part should not be too big otherwise the dress will not be a dress. If you want bigger waves, use a bigger barrel. Don’t use a smaller barrel and take bigger sections because you’ll end up with uneven curls that fall out on a day no one wants!

You will raise your iron until the barrel is facing down. This is very important and learning to hold your iron like this will make things easier down the road as I teach you different curling techniques! You will be holding that hair pin as you pull the iron away from your face. I don’t usually do alternating curls but a lot of people like to do them! My only suggestion is to make sure that all the parts close to your face are turned away from your face.

I like to leave the last inch of hair on the barrel because it makes it easier and livelier. It will also help the waves lay nicely on your shoulders.

Once you get to this point there are three ways to curl and each one you choose will determine the curl you will get.

Just twist the iron until the barrel falls off and just release the fold. This will give you the most neutral curl, not too tight, not too lost!

The second method is to twist the iron and let the curler wrap around your palm. You’re going to let those bones sit there for a few seconds until they’re hot. What we are doing here is curl processing. I like to do this with a 32mm barrel because it gives you big waves and sets the curl style so it doesn’t loosen and break quickly!

The third way is to twist the iron until the fabric starts to fall off the iron, but then you bring the ends to where you hold and stretch the fabric. This will break up the curly pattern a bit and make your curls much easier. I love doing this with 25mm and 19mm!

There are many ways to curl your hair with a curling iron – you can get any look and style you want! Did you know that you can even get a stainless steel rod?

Instead of pinning the hair together and wrapping it around the barrel, you will smooth the hair between your fingers so that it lays flat on the barrel as you wrap it. Can you see the difference?!

What’s your favorite way to wrap up? What barrel size do you like? Having a hard time keeping your hair in curls? I would love to know how you style your hair and what you have found that works for you or maybe you just spent a little time reading this post!!
