The manual clearly puts the 20w recommendation above 115f/50c and operating temperature in Florida is 32f/0c more likely than 104f in Florida, USA day…14f/-10c (less likely)

In Miami we have 5 days of 70F, the rest of the year is 85-95 and up…so maybe…thick oil is more viscous…and more suitable for that climate. .. i will ask my dealer too and see what they say See…
I plan on changing to 10w50 on my next oil change as it is also designed for higher temperatures. I was curious if anyone thought 20w50 would be significantly better. If anything, I imagine the 20 needs a more thorough warm-up.
Yeah, I’m not sure either. 10 or 20w-50… but an oil made for high temperatures is better suited to warmer climates. I wonder what Kava has to say…

If you ride more on the warm end of the temperature range on the chart, go higher. 20w-50 is recommended for manual down to 0C, so it’s definitely versatile.
I use 10w-50 Catrol Power1 4T. It’s cheap and easy to find on Amazon. I raced mostly in Arizona and California. Since the motor is old and has very high miles (25,000-30,000 miles) I may consider using the 20 weight. Let me know if you can find a cheaper 10w-50 with the spec JASO MA2. I don’t care about the brand, I just care about the specification of the oil.
I live on the coast near SF where our temperatures are moderate 50s and 70s. The coastal mountains are 90+ in the summer. I had fun using Castrol Power 1, full synthetic 10w-50, as I watched the temp gauge near high point on long climbing routes.

When I bought a new bike I used 15w40 on all my bikes after about 300 miles on the 10w30 I had with the bike Rotella non syn works great and I warm it up well before starting, i am the only oddball who has a Ktm 690 Duke witch i have 300 and 700 and Running 10w60 syn after 1500 changes 15w40, changed to 15w50 syn at 2400 miles then started 10w60 at about 4000 miles,
I’ve been using 10w50 for over 10,000km now that I’ve switched to 10w40 I can’t tell you what difference the temp bar makes. I also live in a very hot and humid area so I stuck with the 10w50 until recently when I decided to switch as it gets hot here in the winter. I think going with 10w50 all year round isn’t the best idea as I don’t do a lot of mileage. But it’s still 50/50 here.

Did I mention all the Ferraris and saw them on fire in South Florida…no kidding. Coasting can be dangerous on high temperature vehicles, turbos, etc.

I’m at 1300 miles and am planning a 2nd oil change at 2k at 10w-50. The next few October to February in Florida will not be above 100 and will be in the 80s…so 10w will still be quite sticky and allow for a high temperature of 50..?
