Highly recommend 7th May 2022 We did the bus trip from Te Anau to Milford – our driver was a local and we had a great time with him. Easy stops along the way and simply beautiful scenery. We have Milford Haven Cruise on Milford Sound. Just breathtaking views. Overall really enjoyable trip. We had lunch on our own, but the smells coming from the kitchen made us buy some snacks as well. Fantastic way to spend a day 24th June 2022 I did the Queenstown to Milford Sound day trip on a comfortable coach with Hudson as our driver and it was truly outstanding. He knew just about everything there was to know about travel to Fiordland and it was great to hear his feedback through this beautiful part of the country! Walking in the mountains with snow and crisp mountain air is amazing and there are several stops to take pictures and stretch your legs. If you go to Queenstown, you must take this trip. Memorable trip 31st March 2022 We have been to Milford Sound a few times but taking a bus trip gave a whole new perspective. The glass roof meant we could see the tops of the peaks towering above us. Wonderful Milford Sound 28th August 2022 Outstanding customer service, everything went smoothly from the punctual taxi pick up to the coach driver Gill. He was able to stop in for a few extra photo stops along the way. Amazing view and no rain vision. New Zealand definitely shows up today. If traveling from Queenstown, it takes around 5 hours to reach Milford. Te Anau to Milford is approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. This timing allows for restrooms and photo stops along the way. If you are driving, be sure to fill up your vehicle with petrol at Te Anau before traveling to Milford as there are no petrol stations in Milford Sound or en route. Please allow up to 45 minutes – 1 hour to park your vehicle and transfer to the Milford Sound Visitor Terminal where you must check-in for your cruise 20 minutes prior to departure. Parking in Milford Sound is organized by Milford Sound Tourism (MST). The main parking lot is approx. a 10-minute walk from the terminal. Parking at Deepwater Basin is approx. a 25-minute walk from the terminal.

Parking fees apply in the main car park operated by Milford Sound Tourism. The cost is $25 for up to 5 hours.

Visitors should always be prepared to enjoy some rain during their stay. It is recommended that you bring clothes suitable for the cool, humid weather to fully enjoy your stay.

Many say you haven’t seen Fiordland unless you’ve seen it in the rain. When it rains in Fiordland, the scenery is dramatic: rocky streams with waterfalls, mist drifting around the mountain tops, and rushing rivers and streams. From a dry and comfortable vantage point on a bus or boat, this landscape is spectacular for sightseeing.

Milford Sound at the mountainous northern end of Fiordland National Park is the classic fjord, a deep-water inlet between high, steep-sided mountains. Milford Sound is a medium sized fjord with a length of approximately 13km and is famous for its dramatic scenery, especially Miter Peak. This fjord is the most accessible of the 14 fjords in Fiordland National Park and can be reached by bus, car or flight from Queenstown.

Doubtful Sound is in the heart of Fiordland National Park where the mountains are still very impressive but not as tall as Milford Sound. Doubtful Sound is three times as long and has about ten times the sea surface area of ​​Milford Sound. His three arms are Hall, Crooked and First Arm. It is famous for its desert landscapes and wildlife views. To get to Doubtful Sound, visitors first make an initial trip up Lake Manapouri and drive over Wilmot Pass.

While we cannot guarantee you will see wildlife, fur seal sightings are reasonable in both Doubtful and Milford Sounds. A pod of bottlenose dolphins live in Doubtful Sound, so you have a good chance of seeing these fascinating mammals, and in Milford Sound, dolphins are occasional visitors. Driving conditions in winter (May to September) can be challenging. Extreme caution is needed as freezing temperatures mean the road can become icy in shaded areas. In winter it is mandatory to wear snow chains in the vehicle as the road can sometimes be covered in snow. These are available for hire at service stations in Te Anau and Queenstown.
