Boil water in a small pot on gas stove and pour some different perfumes and spices into it. My favorite potpourri recipe combines cinnamon sticks and cranberries with a few kitchen spices – it smells like Christmas and I’ll be burning it all winter long! In spring and summer, try simmering citrus peel with a sprig of rosemary or a dash of vanilla.
Think outside the laundry room and add dryer sheets in random places around the house. Inside your coat closet, inside the closet under the sink, under your couch, etc. You can place them in front of your air conditioner filter, and that fresh smell will waft through the room in no time!

It’s amazing how quickly carpets and rugs can absorb unwanted odors from pets, children, and other household odors. Making your own DIY carpet deodorizer is a very easy way to neutralize carpet odors and leave your home smelling naturally fresh and clean.
It’s amazing what smells can be hidden behind closed doors. I still don’t understand how my daughter’s toilet smells so bad. My first step is always to search and find any dirty clothes that are somehow lying on the closet floor. My 6 year old is the queen of hiding her clean and dirty clothes on the closet floor. It drives me crazy. Next, I vacuum the floor and use the carpet deodorizer recipe on top if needed.

This can be a hidden gem for stinkers. We’re on a septic tank, so we don’t have a garbage disposal, but I know how to help my mom dispose of garbage by peeling lemons and ice cubes.
For my kitchen sink, instead of throwing it away, I sprinkle baking soda and a few drops of lemon essential oil down the drain and let it sit. Then after a few minutes I run hot water down the drain.
Be sure to do this with sinks and tubs that aren’t used often, as they can add odors to the home.

Can I be honest, it’s a job I hate and I don’t do it enough. I actually have to do this for my trash can.
My favorite way is to take out all the trash cans and rinse them thoroughly with a garden hose.

Then I sprinkle baking soda inside and let it set a bit. Then I use a sponge to clean the inside and outside of the can and rinse. Finally, I let it sit outside in the sun to dry.

I put pet toys and bedding in the washing machine and then let them dry in the sun to get rid of pet odors. I avoid smells as much as possible with pets so it doesn’t bother them.
