Working with producer Watt for the second time, Ozzy welcomed a dynamic supporting cast. The record features guitarists Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Pearl Jam singer Mike McCready, and longtime right-hand man and six-string beast Zakk Wylde, who plays on most tracks. Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers held down the drums for most of the album, and the late Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters stepped in. Ozzy’s old friend and former bandmate Robert Trujillo of Metallica plays bass on most tracks on the album, while Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses and Chris Chaney of Jane’s Addiction play bass on a few tracks. Black Sabbath co-founder, guitarist and riff lord Tony Iommi appears on Ozzy’s first solo album.
Q: This is your first album since the pandemic. What was going through your head in the early days of the pandemic, and are any of those feelings reflected in these songs?

Well I got vaccinated and vaccinated and still got covid in the end. My last album (“Ordinary Man”) came out just a few weeks before the pandemic started and I was just about to go into the studio to work on this new one when the world shut down. It’s no secret that the last four years have been very difficult for me, but making this album took my mind off my problems.
Q: There are some players on the album that have history. What was it like musically reuniting with Tony Iommi?
Tony was great to work with. He’s a riff master. In this regard, no one can touch him. I wish we had these tracks for Black Sabbath’s 13th album.

Q: Zakk contributed a lot to this album – how did the decision to include him come about since he didn’t play on the last album?
Zakk is part of my family and always will be. The album needed the weight that his playing provides. He just came in and really got it.
