Planning An Easter Egg Hunt For Big Kids – What better way to celebrate a beautiful and sunny spring day than to watch dozens of excited children race to find over 1,000 Easter eggs? Here are some tips and ideas on how to easily plan an Easter egg hunt.
This past Saturday we participated in our 6th annual street-level Easter Egg Hunt hosted by one of our talented and crafty neighbors. The road was closed to traffic and the eggs were hidden on the front lawns and bushes of about 15 houses on the road.

Before the event, each family donates at least one dozen plastic eggs for each child, each filled with snacks. We were able to reuse our eggs from last year and fill them with small chocolates and toys/toppings that we already had at home. Yes, out of all the hidden eggs, my oldest was able to find two eggs that he decorated with paper after last year’s hunt (and he remembers them)!

Denise placed a small animal on the back of each card and called the children forward in waves according to the animal on their card. In the past few years, children from young to old got up to collect their gifts.
To help organize this and other community events Denise created a community page on Facebook which is a great way to connect with everyone. On site, Denise was able to recruit volunteers to help set up the day as well as mail out cookies, baked goods and juice after the hunt for everyone to gather and mingle. But Denise’s Rainbow Jar Cupcakes stole the show!
Tips For Planning A Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt
This was a very fun morning and has become an annual highlight of our Easter weekend. The event is very organized, goes well and offers neighbors and children the opportunity to get to know each other. Although we are far from the world record of 501,000 eggs hunted by 9,753 children and their parents on April 1, 2007 at the Cypress Gardens Adventure Park in Winter Haven, Florida, USA.
