This is a quick fun book. Miles Furcosigan is one of the best science fiction characters ever written, a crime that has yet to be shown on screen. Perhaps it’s not because she’s clearly incapacitated: an assassination attempt while her mother was pregnant caused prenatal damage that even advanced medicine could not fully heal. Miles has stunted growth and his bones are brittle, and as a result, the prejudiced and aristocratic society of his home world is ready to describe him as weak and illogical. The brilliance of his character is how Miles refuses to accept his limitations, despite constantly searching for the path to greatness – or perhaps – every seemingly difficult obstacle in his path.
A tale of concubines, angels, politics and intrigue centers on the unlikely heroine Fedre no Delaunay, who is born with red corn in her eye – indicating that she is destined to find joy in pain. She is sold as a servant by contract to a gentleman who trains her to become not only a prostitute but a spy, eventually implicating her in a plot to overthrow her entire country.
Although not suitable for children, Screen Mode can be a celebration and examination of the darker and thornier aspects of the human race. The novel is beautiful and physical in a way that few American productions allow, and it would be great to bring something so clever, ethereal and sexy to the screen.

There is no doubt that adapting these novels to the screen will be a challenge, as they repeatedly jump in and feature a range of posing as characters. But the appetite for good epic fiction has grown in recent years, and there’s nothing better than trying. It can be great if it is drawn properly.
First published in 2017, it describes a cybersecurity entity that, unbeknownst to its owner – called “the company” – managed to hack his brain. The cyborg, who secretly refers to himself as “Murderbot”, just wants to watch the soap opera, but is reluctantly drawn into the life-threatening mystery of the humans he is tasked with saving.
It won the 2017 Nebula Award for Best Novel, the 2018 Hugo Award for Best Novel, the Alex Award from the American Library Association, and the Philip K. Dick for 2017. It would be great to see how it works as an on-screen adaptation.
It’s easy to summarize the basic premise of Temeraire’s books: It’s Napoleon’s Wars Except for the Dragons. What it doesn’t convey is how happy the author is who weaves this fictional concept together.
Expand The Canon: Classic Women Playwrights — Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre
The story introduces Captain William Lawrence of the British Navy, who is related to a dragon named Temeraire. In this version with an alternate history of the Napoleonic Wars, dragons are intelligent and capable of speech, and are used in aerial battles throughout Europe and Asia. Lawrence and Temeraire must learn how their partnership transforms their roles in both society and war.
It would be great to see an adaptation featuring these characters on screen. A 19th-century aerial battle fought with dragons? Yes, please.

The first of two new novels in the series. The film centers on Lecce, the sole survivor of a noble family ruling a genocide on the planet Bern. Using her secret psychic abilities at the time to hide in plain sight, Lisa disguises as a normal servant – but her plans are falsified by the arrival of the dragon.
There are aspects of Pern’s books that don’t quite age well, especially sexism—but I would imagine a TV or film adaptation that could fix the flaws in the story, while maintaining its overall frame and plot.
I read a large number of fantasy novels as a child, but I would find it hard to think of many more novels that had a greater impact on how I see the world. Originally published in 1989,

It may seem hopelessly lagging behind in 2022, but reading this in the early ’90s was a revelation. Up to this point, I have never seen gay characters portrayed in anything other than irony, disgust, or a pathetic light, nor have I found anyone who was the protagonist of the story. Inviting him to experience the bigotry and hatred that Vaniel faced firsthand, and to see the powerful recognition of his love through the magic of his world, was a game-changer. The strength of science fiction and fantasy is that it is an imaginary mirror of our prose world. Its unreal settings can be a surprisingly effective invocation of genuine grievances, and this trilogy is a classic example of that. Marlon James’s 2019 novel Black Panther, Red Wolf has been described as the African “Game of Thrones” – an adrenaline-fueled fantasy written by a Jamaican Booker Prize winner. I can’t remember the last time I got so excited about a book, and bought a copy the day it was released. That night, I took my first dive into the Dark Star trilogy.
Things didn’t go well. The narrator, Tracker, spoke as if you were familiar not only with the strange land he lives in, but also with the inner workings of his mind. Whereas fish women swam past and mutant babies roamed through rooftops, any gentle narrator would ask “What is the Hobbit? I guess that needs some detail nowadays.” Instead, it was as if I had woken up in a stranger’s nightmare, and when I felt my way down, I began to suspect that this was not the place I wanted to spend my time. There was a huge amount of spilled viscera, bodily fluids, and, in James’s words, “foul and foul smell”. Sexual violence against men, women and children was among the most disturbing, sometimes graphically and often accompanied by disturbing indifference. Even consensual sex was often tainted with hatred and cruelty.
I adjusted my expectations and kept working. After all, it was compared not to “The Fellowship of the Ring” or “Eye of the World”, but to the darker and more engaging “Game of Thrones”. and obviously james
