If you have little ones who love to express their creativity, a craft birthday party is a fun and unique way to encourage artistic expression while celebrating with friends and family.
Where To Throw A Party
Throwing a themed party can be daunting, but with the right planning, it can be done effortlessly without losing sight of the details.
How To Throw A Big Party In A Small Apartment
We spoke with party planning expert Sally Monroe of Silly Sally’s Entertainment to find out everything you need to know about a craft birthday party your kids will love.
The first step to throwing a successful craft birthday party is a little planning. This includes preparing the guest list, setting up the venue and decorating. It’s time to be wise, but also sprinkle a little creativity before the party to get your guests excited to celebrate with you.
Create your own invitations from scratch. Pick up construction paper, colored markers, glue and glitter and have fun decorating personalized greetings for friends and family. It’s a great way to get your guests’ creative juices flowing and set the mood before the party.

If you have a yard and it’s a nice day, hosting guests outside is a great option that also limits cleanup. Whether it’s indoors or out, Monroe likes to turn any party space into a “children’s museum of art.”
Monroe says, “I like to use the area around the house for activities, like a coffee table that can be used as a DIY ribbon bracelet station or behind the door for Pin the Tail on the Donkey.”
To welcome guests, Monroe likes to make “homemade welcome signs for the yard.” You can make a free chalkboard on a slate sandwich board, or tie some balloons and hang a cardboard sign decorated with the birthday boy on the mailbox or front door.
Throwing A Party? The 10 Things You Need To Plan For Success
Help the birthday boy make a birthday bunting using felt, yarn and fabric paint. To do this, decorate felt triangles with letters and write words like “Happy Birthday”. Then string all the triangles together in a long string. You can hang the banner indoors or outdoors. After the wedding, they will create a special homemade keepsake to commemorate the special day.
According to Monroe, one of the biggest mistakes hosts make is “not [creating] a timeline ahead of time to fit everything you have planned.” When planning a party, first choose art-themed activities that are appropriate for the age group you are celebrating.
“It was a great party and fun for everyone,” Monroe said. “Activities are great [but] remember that activities should be fun for all ages. What might be fun for a 5-year-old might not be fun for a 10-year-old.
How To Throw A Good Party In 2021
Provide craft paper, scissors and decorative accessories such as pens, glitter and paints. Then let your party guests make their own costumes for a DIY photo shoot. From masks to hats to painted beards, kids are really good at disguising themselves to take silly photos with their friends.
Create a photo area with a flat or cardboard background and take photos with an instant camera to give your party guests a special take home.

Help your guests follow their inner Picassos. Monroe suggests offering mini canvases, picture frames, or clay pots with paint, pom poms, yarn, glue, glitter, etc. If you’re using clay pots, Monroe says, “You can even buy plants at your local dollar store if you’re throwing a party.”
If you’re having your party outdoors, turn your driveway or sidewalk into an art project. On a blank asphalt canvas and with the help of colored chalk, your guests can create their own pictures, life-size mazes and games such as hopscotch or four squares. If you have an older group of kids, you can organize a chalk competition where the adults judge the best artwork.

Let your guests design their own cake. You serve the pasta (using pre-made frozen pizza dough for simplicity) and toppings like sauce, pepperoni, cheese, and vegetables, and your guests use their culinary creativity to create a pizza they’ll love.
Turn guests into confectioners. Decorating a cake or cupcake is a fun and budget-friendly way to add artistic expression to your birthday dessert. And who doesn’t want to play with frosting, sprinkles and food coloring?
Grab Cheryl’s Birthday Cookie Decorating Kit and assemble the birthday boy’s favorite candies, sauces, and food coloring. Cover the table with newspaper tablecloths or colorful paper and let the guests create their own beautiful work.

Throwing a backyard party can be an easy way to entertain kids and adults alike, with more fun and less hassle.
Whether your home has a large backyard, a small deck or patio, or if your “backyard” is your front yard, this guide is full of inspiration and tips to help get your outdoor party started.
What kind of yard party do you like? A classic garden barbecue? A “play date” theme for kids and adults with outdoor board games? outdoor movie night with popcorn and movies projected onto the wall or garage door? How about a party with colorful piñatas and a homemade taco bar?
It’s Party Time
No matter what kind of backyard gathering you want, your invitation can be an email, an invitation, a printed card, or a flyer delivered to your neighbor’s door. Make sure the party invitation lets your friends know what they want and what they need to bring, such as children, food, BYOB, and lawn chairs. If an outdoor pool or water play is in the mix, be sure to mention clothes and towels.
If you want to hold your party outdoors, place a sign outside the front door directing guests to the backyard (or wherever the party is). This prevents people from walking into your house and no one knocks on the front door while you wait in the back.
When designing an outdoor space, it is important to provide enough space with several conversation areas. If there is a table at the party where food and drinks are waiting for the guests, it is worth setting up in the shade, under an umbrella or grass tent.
How To Throw A Party Like It’s 2019
If the day of the wedding is too hot or too hot, a few strategically placed oscillating fans can create a cool breeze and keep mosquitoes at bay. Place some bug repellant wipes where guests can use them – although some people, despite their best efforts, have a very attractive gift to bite bugs!
Music is an important component in creating a fun party atmosphere, so think about what works best for your audience. Place the speaker or sound system in a place where it can be projected well, but does not make it difficult to have a conversation. Music is an instant party starter and a great way to get your guests in the party mood.
If your guests don’t know each other, a simple ice breaker idea is to put out name tags. Ask your guests to fill out name tags with their names and interesting facts about themselves. It’s a great conversation starter and a lifesaver when someone’s name isn’t familiar.

Finally, don’t forget to provide bins for trash and recycling so guests can help and maintain your yard.
The basic rule for almost all backyard party decorations is to be colorful and relaxed. Choose your topic if you have one. Piñatas, tissue paper pom poms, inflatables and colorful flowers are easy ways to create a festive atmosphere. Balloons can be a fun decoration for any party, but make sure you throw them properly without endangering pets or small children. You can also cover the serving table with a waterproof tablecloth for easy cleaning. Colorful paper plates, napkins, and striped straws that pop the color scheme are a nice finishing touch.
For evening backyard parties, this is the perfect time to hang the lights you want or wrap your trees in twinkling lights. For additional outdoor lighting solutions, scatter some flameless candles and install solar landscape lights
