Winter Hiking Gear Women
With great stretch and a regular, jogger-like fit that accompanies you on the trail, the Hardwear Dynama / 2 Ankle Mountain Pants quickly won us over. Made from lightweight nylon with a bit of elastane to enhance movement, the Dynama breathes well, does a great job of wicking away moisture, and dries quickly when wet. Another highlight is the large, unclogged waistband, which fits snugly under the pack’s belt and minimizes irritation and discomfort from sweaty skin. Throw in a relaxed fit, leg length, and deep arm pockets, and you’ve got a great pair of pants that give you great breathability and versatility for warm-weather hikes, after-work sessions, or just lounging around camp. or a house. The Dynama is a bit narrow for big mountain activities (if that’s what you want, check out Arc’teryx’s Gamma LT below) but it packs a punch better than most, with space for 2023 Our top earns.

Choosing the right pants for women was not easy: everyone has different preferences in terms of size and style, and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. With this in mind, Dynama/2 has some problems. The first is the thin fabric, which we found wears down over time and isn’t one that can do painful things like climbing (a few of us have shed a few tears from contact with rock). The pants also leave behind pockets and there is no safe place to store a phone, although the phone pockets are deeper than most. Additionally, a long, tight ankle brace can be difficult to maneuver over thick calves, leaving a small area of your feet vulnerable to bumps and bruises. Finally, we found a lot of wind between our legs and had to get off. But if they fit you well, the Dynama/2 pants check all the boxes we check in hiking style and are a fun alternative to traditional styles like the prAna Halle II and Patagonia Quandary below.
With a sophisticated combination of style and functionality, prAna’s Halle II is distinctive in its transition from the track to the city. In short, the flexibility is second to none: the Halle is available in different colors and sizes (including three different sizes and lengths), the stretch fabric is comfortable and fast, and you get a lot of features, including deep ones. hand pockets and bows to protect bent legs. Additionally, Halle seems to provide a perfect fit for almost any body type, and we’re particularly impressed with the nylon/spandex construction of the pants, which are very durable, resilient, and have a classic shape even after years. protect carrying on the wash. All in all, you’d be hard-pressed to find a nice pair of pants that can still hold up outdoors.
That said, while we appreciate that the new ReZion fabric uses recycled nylon, it’s much softer than before and has a cheaper, smoother feel. The fit has also changed a bit: There’s more room under the belly, and the sizing goes very well—our women’s tester is usually between a 4 and 6, but it’s a size 2 in the Halle II. goes Finally, some of our previous complaints are still there: the zippered hip pocket isn’t big enough for a smartphone, the inner strap can create a pressure point under the hipbelt or waistband, and the thick fabric is hot in the summer. But among the competition, Halle is known as one of the most versatile and stylish pants, so we put it here. It’s also available in straights and joggers, as well as a new version with a waist belt that we’ll be testing this spring.
Best Hiking Pants For Women 2023 — Cleverhiker
Most of the items on this list are close to $100, but affordability isn’t the only reason we love REI’s popular Savanna Trails Pants. Made from lightweight nylon, Savanna’s pants are breathable and quick-drying, making them a great choice for summer trips. Comfort is also a strong suit, with integrated and adjustable knees that support trail riding and camping activities. In addition, REI uses other features such as knee pads and straps on the campers to keep feet on the ball or away from your shoes (an important feature especially for hikers). Otherwise, Savanna Trails is a great way to get a change of scenery in the upper Halle for less than $40.
Despite being well made for the price, Savanna Trails comes with some drawbacks. While the fit is surprisingly comfortable and a little tighter than expected from REI, the pants do sag a bit in the thighs and legs when worn for days in a row. We also found the elastic at the waistband to be a bit tight and ended up using a small drawstring to keep it from falling off (a belt tie or buckle would be very helpful here). Additionally, the thin fabric is prone to wrinkling—especially between the thighs—and won’t hold up to wear and tear as well as the high-quality design (we had a crease in our pocket after a few days of use). Finally, although the storage is better than average, there is no place to safely store the smartphone (it only fits in open bags). But with a variety of options at a great price, Savanna Trails gets our vote as the best organizational choice this year.
Not everyone likes to wear nylon pants on the road, and long leggings (also called leggings) are another popular option. While your typical “athletic” design from brands like Lululemon and Athleta will do the job, a classic hiking model offers more performance, comfort and durability. With so many options on the market, our Patagonia Pack Out Hike Tights rank as one of the best all-around, multi-storage, soft yet durable, waterproof tights that hold their shape over time. seat and knee, and an elastic band that stays in place and prevents the bottom of the pack from collapsing.

However, while we love the comfort and style of the leggings, there are incredible drawbacks when it comes to performance. In general, pants are more durable than regular pants and don’t offer the same wind and water resistance. To be fair, we have no complaints about the Pack Out’s knee and bench exercises, but the soft materials elsewhere put us in a bind. And thanks to the close fit, you’ll have plenty of breathability – the Pack Out Hike Pants are especially thick enough to wear on hot days, and their lightweight fabric dries slowly. But while you might pay a little more for leggings of any kind, the Pack Out Hike Tights are another mountain-ready option that can handle life’s challenges.
There are plenty of lightweight hiking options for summer, but for a long trek through Peru’s Cordillera Huayhuash, we turned to the more rugged Gamma LT. What sets these soft pants apart is their outstanding warmth and weather resistance in a lightweight and durable design. Durability is good, too: We wore the Gamma LT for nine days straight while hiking, camping, filtering water, cooking, and breathing, wearing the Gamma LT every day, and the pants came home like new. Also, their super soft fabric was stretchy enough to layer well over warm pants on chilly evenings and keep all of their shape. At $180, the Gamma LT is one of the more expensive pants on our list, but with Arc’teryx quality, performance and attention to detail, you get what you pay for.
Arc’teryx recently updated the Gamma LT, and the latest model features an adjustable collar and redesigned pockets (two arms and one thigh, both with zippers). This is a good news update, as the belt buckle was our bane with the previous model (the metal plate was causing pressure under the pack belt). However, it is important to be aware of the limitations of such a large pant: Gamma LT is perfect when you need to control the weather and temperature.
